Re: DaveK15: Porch vs. Even Flow
This is a great and slightly unexpected final. Whoever wins, we win. Two deserving songs.
Porch has been a top 5 song for me for a long long time. The improv into the outro of unplugged porch was, for years, THE definitive live pearl jam moment for me. It may well still be. Always a concert highlight. And the reckless last stand energy of the studio track always leaves me breathless. I am not a runner. Porch makes me wish I was. Just an incredible all cylinders moment - the repeating part Mike or Stone (not sure who?) is playing underneath Eddie's vamping is one of my favorite guitar parts in the catalog.
Just an incredible song.
Even Flow, on the other hand, was my first favorite pearl jam song. Uniondale 03's Even Flow is, with the possible exception of Satan's Bed in Atlanta 94, is my single favorite live performance (I was there, which helps). And while I have undoubtedly gotten a little tired of Even Flow over the years, and 100% have taken it for granted, in the last few years I've come back to it - weirdly the Ten version rather than the re-recorded version that was my favorite growing up.
Even Flow is kind of a perfect song. Great lyrics - evocative, mysterious, empathetic, weighty. A mighty riff. Underrated mike solo, incredible grove. An all timer vocal performance from Eddie. In some ways THE vocal performance from Eddie. For better or worse, this is what everyone froze in time. And there's a reason.
I like porch more. But did I just talk myself into voting for even flow.
I think I did

I'm going with Porch. I probably used to love Even Flow more, but Porch has been my favorite for a lot of years now.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

You know that scene in Immagine En Cornice where the fans are singing the vocal intro to Porch and then it blasts into the Even Flow riff? Yeah. Vote for both.

It's Even Flow by a country mile.
Even if this was Black v Even Flow like the poll says it should be, EV takes it.
