While Even Flow is the song that crystalized who Eddie Vedder is in the public consciousness, Dissident is the sound I most associate with what the essence of Pearl Jam is. But weirdly, that has made it almost generic for me, despite recognizing that it's a great song.

Last Exit was a top 5 pearl jam song for many years. Still top 10.

i love Last Exit and always think of early renditions with Stone charging along on stage and Dave bashing away like a locomotive

but Dissident is quintessential pearl jam and I have to give it the nod here.

Love both of these.

Going with Dissident to give it some love.

I went through a really bad run with Dissident for a long time. I never hated the track, but for a long time if there was a song to skip, that was it. I think for me it came off like a by-the-numbers Ten era track. But I have come around more to it recently. Not enough for it to topple a song that’s one of my favorites in Last Exit, but enough for me to focus on it for a post.
