Pop 2 and True Romance are all-time favorite albums for me. I actually kinda think "1999" was her last great song (though "Good Ones" is also very good), but I know that's an unpopular opinion. I'm happy for her that she's finally gotten super popular but the last four albums have been sorta lackluster for me.tree_ wrote:do you have any favorite albums/songs to recommend? so far i think my favorite song i've heard is Sympathy is a knife. have you seen her SNL performance? she's fucking incredibleLoathedVermin72 wrote:Charli xcx > King Crimson

Not only does Bo Diddley have a song called Diddley Daddy but he also has a song called Run Diddley Daddy.
Sounds like songs that would be included on a soundtrack for the Epstein Files.

Every single time I try to think of the British dance group Faithless -- which to be fair isn't exactly often, but still, every single time -- I want to call them Sleepless. Then I struggle for a few seconds to figure out what they're actually called, and I finally find it after a minute. It's like a very specific curse someone put on me.

Yeah but he had that riff and a rectangle shaped guitar so he could do whatever he wanted.Higgs wrote:Not only does Bo Diddley have a song called Diddley Daddy but he also has a song called Run Diddley Daddy.

Isn't it crazy how Roger Waters ended up being the most handsome member of Pink Floyd? No one could have predicted that

Speaking of Waters, I did a deep dive on Floyd writing credits and I think I underestimated just how much he was responsible for. I knew he wrote more than Gilmour but I didn't think it was that one sided.
He may be a crackpot but he's gotta be a top 3 songwriter of all time. So gifted.

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
yeah, he is awesome.
I also love his solo album Amused To Death, which is also very timely for our times. I think after that one, he just stopped writing or didnt quite cared until he came back big with his Floyd theme albums tours. I saw him live twice, and he was awesome ( first show he did a greatest hits stuff with lots of Amused songs and the other one was Dark Side..)
As for Gilmour, he needed a lot of help to actually have stuff released..thats why the latter Floyd albums are meh. He is way more bland and formulaic than Waters.

These are probably the worst metal vocals I’ve ever heard, and therefore this is probably the most unintentionally funny metal song I’ve ever heard. Laughed out loud when he broke out the “EEEE EEEEEEEEE”

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I was reading Questlove's tribute to D'Angelo from Rolling Stone and it had an interesting tidbit about the Black Messiah recording process:
Fourteen years between Voodoo and Black Messiah — a lifetime. When I came in for the latter, every piece of Voodoo gear was still there intact as if we’d never left. “Guys,” I said, “why are we using VHS tapes and floppy disks and CDs from ’97? The world moved on.”
Not in his mind.
“We’re going straight vintage,” he said.
I didn’t get it — but one man’s comedy is another’s heart-on-sleeve pursuit of perfection.

I think of David Gilmour as one of my favourite musicians and Roger Waters as one of my favourite songwriters.VinylGuy wrote:yeah, he is awesome.

The fact that Jenny Lewis recorded I Never nude in studio does kick it up a notch or two.
