Favorite Drummers (and you can't say Bonham, Moon or Peart)

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

- Carl Palmer (Emerson Lake and Palmer) - California Jam (Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Part 2 drum solo) on YouTube. Note: Carl was doing Neil Peart shit years before we ever heard of Rush; only better.
- Buddy Rich - Go anywhere on YouTube (even the clip of him cursing out his band)
- Brann Dailor (Mastodon) - very impressive! Brazil 2015 (High Road)

Jazz (and Jazz-inspired) drummers make the best rock drummers!!!!

Two of my favorites are Carter Beauford and Bryan Devendorf (amongst others) But Carter is absolute favorite.

True story that Jimmy Chamberlain is underrated.

He is amazing.

I saw Smashing Pumpkins with a different drummer and it sucked.

I think any drummer that has a drumbeat that makes a song instantly recognizable should be included here.

Roger Taylor - We Will Rock You
A.J. Pero - We're Not Gonna Take It
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Stewart Copeland
Matt Helders
Dave Grohl
Checked into this thread to see how many posts before Helders was mentioned. Wasn't many. No follow up, though? He's the Arctic Monkeys drummer, if you didn't know. He's the undisputed mvp of the album Humbug, imo. I've seen them on 5 different tours, and I watch him more than any other drummer. He's phenomenal.

Counterpoint: There are countless songs out there that are instantly recognizable after the first second or two. Whether it be a drum beat, vocal, piano, guitar riff, fuck - a synthesizer, you name it. Many of those songs totally suck and make you wanna puke. So the artist responsible shouldn't necessarily be included here.

Oh and by the way, the singer from Panic! At The Disco is a goddamn amazing drummer.

I am just here to add I have an immense appreciation for drummers who do not wear traditional drummer clothing. Take Clem Burke (Blondie), Ringo and to a lesser extent Bun E Carlos (cheap trick, dress shirt, pants and suit)

that has to be fucking restrictive as hell

Since these sorts of threads/discussion tend to rely on musicians who rose to prominence last century I thought I'd name 20 wildly talented and exceptional drummers who have emerged since the year 2000 who will continue to cement themselves as elite beatmakers:

Michael Cavanaugh - King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard
Jon Theodore - Queens of the Stone Age
Glenn Kotche - Wilco
Lauren Hammel - Tropical Fuck Storm
Sarah Thawer
Matt Helders - Arctic Monkeys
Zach Hill - Death Grips
Stella Mozgawa - Warpaint
Ilan Rubin - NIN / Foo Fighters
Greg? Saunier - Deerhoof
Max Bassin - Geese
Bryan Devendorf - The National
Brann Dailor - Mastodon
Linda-Philomène Tsoungui - The Mars Volta
Tom Skinner - The Smile

Obviously Jack Irons.

Patrick Keeler, his drumming on the second Raconteurs record is really great.
