My youngest failed his driving test today. Hit the first curb turning right out of the lot and never recovered. It’s nbd, but he’s embarrassed and frustrated and, man, being a teenage can really fucking suck.

For like 5 minutes when we moved to Australia, I thought I was going to have to take a driving test to get my license. I had no faith I could pass.

Passed on his second try today. The instructor looked at his sheet from the first test and said, “I don’t really understand how you failed.” Whatever. All is right with the world. Except absolutely everything else.

Got an email from school last night notifying parents that a suspicious vehicle parked there yesterday and left before police arrived.

Attached picture featured a modded camper with paragraphs of some vaguely religious manifesto hand painted on the sides (many intentional misspellings.)

Today at drop off two patrol cars were stationed in parking lot. I feel equally comforted and sick.

We had the Kindergarten "Sneak Peak" the other day. There was a sign that said, "Welcome Class of 2039".

What do you do when someone gives their kid a name that you’re not too sure about? Like, you just have to ignore it for the rest of your life, right? I woke up to a text from my brother that my SIL delivered a beautiful baby girl last night and her name is…Anora. My wife immediately asked, “Like the stripper movie?” So yeah there’s that.

Do you consider it terrible just because of the movie?

Yeah I don’t think it’s a terrible name, it’s just that the movie is the only cultural referent to that name right now, but I’m sure by the time she’s older it will fade. It’d be like naming your kid, I dunno, “Monica” in 1998—everyone would immediately go to the same place in their head, even if the parents just like the name.

I’m a funny sidebar, when my nephew was born in 2023 and they reveled his name, I realized his initials were “FJB”—this was the height of the “Fuck Joe Biden” bumper sticker era, so it made me laugh. But again, his first and middle names were family names, so just a silly coincidence.

Enrolled my daughter into her first Taekwon-Do tournament for next weekend. At training during the week they were getting her to try on the gear for the tournament. One of the things are these silly padded shoe type things - padded at the top - bare foot at the bottom. Once she had them on I told her to try giving me a turning kick to the leg. She looked at me oddly, and I told her it was alright that she wouldn't hurt me. She then proceeded to give me a front kick right to the nuts getting me with the ball of her foot. Good times!

She assessed that the only way to drop you to the mat was to fight dirty. Elite competitiveness, you should be proud.

My youngest (almost 5) is now old enough to play basketball out in the driveway by himself. It's funny how these little milestones sneak up on you, but it's the absolute best to hear the bouncing and shouts of "buckets" after each made shot.
