My mom had her first cancer rehab appt, and judging from the clinical notes, she used a good part of the time to vent all her frustrations to the therapist. I ran the text through ChatGPT for summation, and as I suspected, it reads like someone who isn’t well enough to live alone and look after themselves.

I rang my sister since she’s been boots on the ground since I left, and she’s of the opinion that it’s not as bad as that - perhaps my mom’s embellishing things s bit or some things were lost in translation. Anyway, that made me feel a bit better, but I’m still going to have to chat with my mom this week about potential in home care for awhile til she’s recovered from her surgery and radiation.

My 97 year old grandmother passed. She broke her hip back in September or October and had been up and down since. In and out of the hospital with pneumonia and UTI's. Would make a little progress in rehab, then get sick again. She had a UTI last Sunday before last and since pretty much stopped eating. I think my dad is taking it pretty hard. Tough to see, but 97 is a long, long life. Hoping not to get there.

97 is amazing. It's hard to see them like that but they really did go for gold. Respect.

Sorry, David. That’s more or less how my last grandparent passed, at around the same age too. Take care.

While better, my mom still has a lot of residual discomfort and limitation from her surgery. There are things like rehab and pain mgmt available, which she’s done a bit of, but currently has put on hold as she doesn’t want anything to interfere with her upcoming radiation treatment schedule.

The thing is, we know that’s a couple weeks away from beginning, so why not fit this other stuff in before that. She keeps acting like they are going to start her radiation any minute. Very frustrating, so I’m going to have to do some more hand holding and get some appointments for pain and rehab scheduled.

Visited my folks this weekend. Brought my snowboard and my son brought skis. My old man came with us. He’s 74 and still bombing down the hill in jeans. My mom’s hands aren’t still anymore. I don’t know if it’s anxiety/nervousness or the start of something sinister. Either way, fuck Parkinson’s.

Exhausting and sad day. My mom (who is in treatment for a type of blood cancer) is in the hospital now with pneumonia. Doctors seem optimistic but it's been so stressful and worrying. I hate seeing her suffering like this but she feels better right now.
