Behind The Sun: The Official RHCP Thread.

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Homie looks so cool with that faded shell pink Fender Jazz. Love that thing!

Honora is gorgeous. Very fucking cool, full of very quieter moments and jazzy as hell. The Maggot Brain cover is gorgeous, both beautiful and sad. Wichita Linemen sung by Nick Cave is haunting and a complete rework of the original.

But what i most love about this is how cool the original songs are, very experimental and yet contained.

Feels like record of the year!

Finally got to Honora. This is a wonderful jazz album. It doesn’t necessarily wed itself to an era, but reminded me of some of the 70s jazz/funk fusion stuff. And Flea’s pretty good at trumpet! Songs are all excellent.

He also got a very direct influence from Jeff Parker´s The Way Out of Easy. Its pretty much the same band.

We have discussed that album a lot in the jazz thread, and its a must for everyone who enjoys this album.

The purists are kinda dunking on the album, saying Flea's trumpet playing is amateurish and flat.

I really enjoy his playing. There's a rawness to it.

Right. Nobody is accusing him of being the next Miles Davis. This is just an artist creating art that speaks to him, and seems like it’s also speaking to other folks. And frankly for some, it could be an entry point into jazz, which has its own value.

Jazz purists are just as irritating as audiophiles.
RHCP purists are just dumfounded by the absence of "California" on every song.

I'm really digging Honora.

I watched the Netflix doc last night. It was a really nice tribute to Hillel Slovak and the band’s early history. They also really dive deep into the darker side of this band up to ‘88.

Yeah i liked it a lot. Made me remember those years and got me listening to Freakey Styley and Mofo Uplift a lot.

It was interesting to see Anthony talking about it too.
