My mom is currently in the ICU, sedated and intubated, basically waiting to die. she's been dealing with this blood cancer thing for about 3 months and last week she was hospitalized due to pneumonia. She was put under because she was struggling too hard to breathe, and on top of that they found a hemorrhage in her brain (due to her low platelets from her condition, it's been really hard to stop). Doctors have told me it'd be wise to brace for the worst. My siblings are flying in from other countries tomorrow.
I love my mom with all my heart. she's the kindest, sweetest, funniest person I've ever known, and the only person to love me unconditionally my entire life. So every day I pace around her hospital room monologuing at her unresponsive body and hoping some of it somehow breaks through the heavy pharmaceuticals keeping her asleep. I try my best to thank her for everything she's done for me, apologize for ways in which I might have failed her, and reassure her that her children are going to be okay. I tell her over and over again that I love her, as if the sheer intensity of my lovebombing can lift her from that bed, or at the very least cushion her from whatever pain or discomfort comes with passing away. She's just the best and does not deserve this. Nothing in my life has ever hurt like this, and I don't know what I'm going to do with myself moving forward.

I lost my mom to cancer way too young. She was everything to me. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer my entire world flipped upside down and i dealt with so many emotions that....i dont know. Lots o guilt. Shame. Regret. I lived states away from her for a majority of my adult life. My mom shut down for the year she was sick and i resented her for that and resented myself for feeling that resentment. Its just terrible. Ultimately, the love prevails. Moms are the fucking best. I understand and appreciate that not everyone has a good relationship with their parents, father, or mother. but those of us who are momma boys....it fucking hurts. So much.

Its been 6 years and its not any easier. its just normal. Which sucks.

Also, recently, my sister in law lost her dad to a blood cancer that they now believe was due to agent orange. He served in Vietnam. It was a similar situation where he was healthy and out there living life and then all of the sudden....took a turn and they couldnt figure out what was happening.

Sorry you are going through this Jorge.

I just want to say that I went through this with my own Mum just last year. She went into palliative care and was drugged up and 'asleep' I sat with her through it until she passed. I was holding her hand when she went and yes, I spoke to her a lot over her final days.

It wasn't easy but I'm so glad I was there and looking back it was an honour.

Mom passed away today, just minutes after her three children were able to congregate around her and tell her we love her. I'm beyond devastated, but I take comfort in the fact that she went without much pain or discomfort. A truly incredible person and the best mom I could have asked for. I will miss her every day of my life.
