Tonight was one of the craziest things I’ve seen on final jeopardy. That was a wild way to win

Oh man yes. The only saving grace is that they both had it right but failed on a technicality. If she had been way off and he failed only on spelling that would have been supremely unjust.

For those who didn't see,

the final jeopardy was something along the lines of "this national park is underneath a bunch of desert". Everyone was pretty much even on money going in.

The answer was Carlsbad Caverns. The first guy was way, way off and bet everything. The next lady guessed "What is Carlsbad" but since she didn't add "caverns" she lost and bet big enough to drop to $600. The returning champion guessed "What is Carlsbad Cavrans" and lost on the spelling of caverns and his total dropped to $1.

If he would have misspelled it as “cavarns” they would have accepted it but because the r came before the vowel it changed the pronunciation too much

But like do they really think a Jeopardy player doesn't know it's caverns? Like someone smart enough to get on Jeopardy thinks a cavran is a not only an actual thing but a thing distinct from a cavern?

I get the impression he came up with the answer late and was scrambling to write fast enough and just had a manual typo.
