I'm listening to S/T now. This is a much better album than I remember it being. Ed doesn't over-pronounce everything (apparently he's only being doing this since Backspacer) and he still sounds beautifully subtle and mumbly where he needs to, and Matt sounds like he's enjoying himself. I'm at Big Wave and not hating it. This is undoubtedly the Backspacer / LB effect.

I dont get why people don't like World Wide Suicide. I really like it, especially the pre-chorus or whatever it's called. The vocal line there and the guitar chords behind it are honestly one of the coolest moments in the entire catalog, especially when the bridge goes into the stripped down pre-chorus. Just awesome. I think this is the best album of the later years by far, Life Wasted is probably the best opener in their entire catalog. Maybe Go but something about Life Wasted I just love.

I enjoyed this song anyway, but today I really enjoyed it.

Also, I'd forgotten how Matt drums the hell out of Marker. It's great.

I just decided to listen to Avocado and after the first few lines of Life Wasted I already thought "Man, I like this Ed so much more than LB Ed". He sings completely different and it's not only the lack of ticks.

Avocado is pretty awesome. But "LB Ed" is really good too...i think he sounds very good, better than BS or RA.

I like that there's more baritone/low-end on LB, and I'm still not a huge fan of the screeching on this album, but on the whole he sounds more human here. I remember reading (somewhere) that this album was meant to reflect the live show more than others, and I guess I realise what that meant now; there are so many different styles here, like on the setlists, but the lack of polish is really noticeable and makes it feel like more of an event.

Also, I liked Inside Job more than I ever have. That should probably go in the "Admit Something" thread. The music that fades in and then out again right at the end of the album is great.

You have to wonder what's changed, and I can't help but wonder whether someone's told him he needs to be "good and loud" etc. Especially since BoB has made such a point of continually telling us he sings the hell out of this record, or whatever he says. It's like the things BoB talks most about are always the things he had a hand in.

It's like the things BoB talks most about are always the things he had a hand in.

It's a reaaall possibilityyyy. I somehow hate complaining about his singing for the hundreds time but it's just a super frustrating topic for me. Something that was one of the most enjoyable musical things in the world became something that has the ability to annoy me now. It's even more frustrating that everything that annoys me seems to be a concious choice and not just a deterioration of his singing abilities.

1-7 is very enjoyable throughout with Comatose, Severed Hand, Parachutes and Unemployable being the highlights and every song is at least good. 8-13 is pretty boring with Come Back being the exception. I don't get the hate for that one. Do people dislike it due to being overly sentimental? I think it's a pretty and genuine song.

Its very genuine yeah, and i like it, but there is something missing there..i think its a failed attemped of making a nice little r&b song.

The verse and chorus chord structures are the most boring and obvious chord structures in the entire catalogue, for me (along with "FoN" now) and the song never diverts from them. It's a pretty bland and stereotypical motown-style song. Within those confines, it's not that bad. It's not my favourite on the end of the album, but it's slim pickings.

Okay, I get that. It's not the most imaginative they've done. The thing I like it for is Ed's vocals.
