The Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker

It’s hard not to make the comparisons between classic rock’s next generation and the one before it, and maybe the Black Crowes are the epitome of this. They seem on the surface to be part Allmans southern rock, part Stones, part Faces - and there’s certainly a point to all that. They are also their own beast, something expounded much more on subsequent albums. But even here, they’ve still got their own swagger and power, and this is surely an essential album of theirs and from this new decade. The hits are well known in their cover of Hard to Handle, Jealous Again, She Talks to Angels, and Twice As Hard, but just as essential is Stare It Cold, Sister Luck, Thick N’ Thin, and Struttin’ Blues. There’s no weak spot on here - a band hitting the ground running, even if that ground seems like it’s been run on before. They frankly do this thing just as well as those other folks.

The Essential Track: Sister Luck (just have been feeling this one lately)

Up Next: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory
This was one of the first major albums BOB worked on, no?
It was. He’s even doing the solo on Hard To Handle.

We’ve probably got at least 2 more weeks of 1990 magic, but given ‘91 being one of the seminal years we’ll probably listen through here, looking to get a beat on it so I can order my list in a way that makes sense in my head. Here’s what I have thus far:

Genesis - We Can’t Dance
Dire Straits - On Every Street
The Feelies - Time For a Witness
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Slint - Spiderland
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Cypress Hill
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Uncle Tupelo - Still Feel Gone
Allman Brothers Band - Shades of Two Worlds
R.E.M. - Out of Time
U2 - Achtung Baby
Van Halen - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Guns N’ Roses - Use Your Illusion I
Guns N’ Roses - Use Your Illusion II
Metallica
Michael Jackson - Dangerous
Nirvana - Nevermind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Temple of the Dog
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Mudhoney - Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge
Smashing Pumpkins - Lull

I am super impressed by some or your ball knowledge, especially LV. I assumed Liebro was already on TalkTalk and Melvins but that was stupid of me. Good shit.

I made the list in advance of hearing all that. I haven’t refreshed it much since I first made it a year and a half ago.

All added.
