Bout to strap in and watch Conan the Barbarian. I know I’ve seen parts, but it’s been years upon years

She ended up watching something else so we could watch it together sometime. Blimey.

Here's my weekly update on how my project of trying to complete the list of the 1,000 greatest films before I turn 40 at the end of next year.

This week, I watched three more movies. First was Smiles of a Summer Night, an 'early' Bergman comedy which was indeed funny and felt quite like a Swedish Shakespeare.

Next was 1985's Taipei Story, from Edward Yang. This one I enjoyed very much

And tonight I watched the Audrey Hepburn classic Breakfast at Tiffany's, which I found tremendously charming and quite captivating. I won't be marking it as a favorite over the Mickey Rooney of it all, but it does have a lot of charm overall

I only managed to get through one more episode of the silent French serial Les Vampires (1915-16), so I have now seen four of ten episodes. I'll try to look at that more this week.

262 films to go! Still on target

Good luck. Very surprised to hear your remaining number is so low. You've been putting in work as a cinephile!

I'm 20 years in at this point. Most of that work was done 2006-2012, honestly

Marty Supreme was very good, and I say that as someone who wasn’t impressed by Good Time or Uncut Gems. Need way more Abel Ferrara acting in my life.

Justice League: The New Frontier (Blu-Ray)
Man, I really love this one. I don’t collect comics, but I did get the DC compact version of this one.

I Love Boosters.

Such an enjoyable experience. Poignant and hilarious. Weird and layered. Surprising and hokey (in the best way). It's stylized within an inch of it's life and it all works.

Boots Riley is a special mind and a welcomed eye.

Finally just saw TeneT. Man, I was very intrigued throughout the movie, and was expecting some kind of coherent satisfying revelation by the end, but it never came. I feel bad for Nolan in this one, like he was onto something genuinely brilliant but didn't realize its full potential. Fascinating movie, but I give it a grade of Incomplete.

It feels like he built this incredibly intricate puzzle box but never tied it into anything emotionally or philosophically satisfying. I kept expecting some reveal where maybe the future people actually had a point, or where the protagonist realizes he's been part of the problem all along, something that recontextualizes everything in a tragic or ironic way. Instead it mostly just became an exercise in disorientation and temporal mechanics for their own sake.

Still fascinating though. Just frustratingly incomplete to me.

It's not a good movie and it doesn't make sense, but, other than Batman Begins, it's the Nolan I have re-watched the most.

I like the vibe, even recognizing that it doesn't make sense or work really in any way at all. Other than vibe. The vibe works

Yeah, it works as like a freaky dream does. It definitely had its hooks in me. Just could've been so much more.
