The Format are playing earlier in the day at Ohana Festival same day as PJ. The Format toured with another drummer Will Noon, but he's favored to be a permanent member of Taking Back Sunday.[1] Chamberlain is using The Format as a warmup to PJ that night. This as alittle tease as they like to do ("Amanda Reckonwith" anyone?)
So the Format's first show is in July and we'll know who's really drumming for them at that time is all I'm saying.

This is the closest thing we have to a lead. Well-done.

Does Chamberlain have a signature style/sound? Would he be much different from Matt Cameron?

Here he is playing Matt Cameron's drum parts in Soundgarden:

Edit: found an interview with him and Stone (they mostly talk about Painted Shield). But yeah, Stone definitely called him.

As good a demonstration as any, here's a Pearl Jam show from his brief run with the band in 1991:

And of course, he plays drums in the Alive video.

I'm still skeptical he would want to sign up for the gig, but I would be thrilled if he did.

That “Bike Ride” video is really impressive.

One important thing to consider when it comes to Matt Chamberlain is that he holds his stick in a "traditional grip". I'm not saying I'm against it, but it's an important thing to consider.

I'm just saying, is that what we want? Are we all comfortable with that? Are we ready for a traditional gripper?

If it’s good enough for Steve Ferrone, it’s good enough for whatever pip Pearl Jam hires for drums.

My only misgiving with Chamberlain would be that I'm not sure he'd bring a new ingredient to the band. I might be doing him a disservice but I don't think he's going to steer the band into trying new sounds and songs in the way that Cameron or Irons did.

This brought a new question to my mind. Will they be looking for/did they look for a drummer that’s also a songwriter like Matt was? Have they been trying to find another “voice” so to speak?

Well, he has a couple of his own bands or records. He and Stone wrote most of the songs on that first Painted Shield album.
Matt Chamberlain wrote all the music on this song for instance:

Yeah, his own solo work is as idiosyncratic as the solo stuff from Jack Irons: https://mattchamberlain1.bandcamp.com/

He can also really lock into a groove with Stone, and that what excites me the most cause Matt Cam never really grooved with Stone in the same way Jack or Dave did.

Yeah me too, he is still very in demand. Constantly on the road with Tori Amos, Paul Simon, Diana Krall and many many others. But, PJ could be a much bigger pay. Maybe this comes at the right time for him. He is also in his late 50s. And with PJ he could probably earn more with fewer days on the road.

Holy shit that keyboard solo on Dead Man's Dream = maybe I'm nuts, but if I heard that without seeing it I would have 100% thought it was electric guitar.
