Per Sony: “Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A one-time online check is required to confirm the game's license, after which no further check-ins are required.”

Beat the first boss about 2 hours into the game. Still digging into the mechanics and weapons, but really liking the gameplay feel and world. Housemarque nails the "flow state" like few others.

Is this different enough from Returnal to recommend? Considering just replaying that game insteadMonkey_Driven wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 5:29 pm Beat the first boss about 2 hours into the game. Re: Sony Playstation
They're certainly similar. The shield mechanic is quite different and there is an upgradable skill tree that carries over from run to run in this one. I'd say you can wait for the inevitable sale.tree_ wrote: Wed May 06, 2026 5:57 pmIs this different enough from Returnal to recommend? Re: Sony Playstation
Four bosses down and this is really opening up. It's like Returnal meets Doom. The rogue-like elements have been stripped down to just a few options while in a run, but the modifiers beforehand can add some variety and strategy.

Sony really needs a good one here. I'm expecting a few major announcements.

Some theaters are hosting this. The last time a State of Play was in theaters, some of the games featured included: TLoU2, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Control, Death Stranding, RE2 Remake, Nioh 2. In hindsight, that was an absolute banger.Monkey_Driven wrote: Wed May 20, 2026 8:01 pmSony really needs a good one here. I'm expecting a few major announcements.

Santa Monica - God of War (the story and time travel implementation sounds absolutely awesome, if true)
Naughty Dog - Intergalactic
Insomniac - Wolverine
Guerrilla Games - A non mainline Horizon game that no one's looking forward to.
Sucker Punch - Nothing
Housemarque - Nothing
Media Molecule - New IP
I'm not sure what to expect from major third parties. Control Resonant? Witcher 4? Something from Konami?

Wow, didn't realize that....fully agree Sony needs a good one. Notice that last banger largely driven by 3rd person action titles, hoping for the same on the 2ndCopperTom wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 2:53 pmSome theaters are hosting this. Re: Sony Playstation
Rumor mill nailed this one. Only incorrect detail was AstroBot being a playable character in RayMan.
Wolverine looked gory as hell. Day 1 purchase.
God of War looked great. I gotta wonder if the cube is a placeholder. Like Rock Baby / Rosalina in Donkey Kong. I'm glad it's a 2027 release. Day 1 purchase.
I'm sure I'll eventually play Onimusha, Control, Until Dawn and maybe even Dynasty Warriors. I loved the BttF Time Machine in Stuntman too - depending on how much BttF content it actually has may warrant a purchase.

So the cube is not a placeholder.

That God of War reveal instantly makes we want play the first two again. It looks incredible. Control Resonant is a must too. Wolverine looks great but I'm not sure how they're going to keep the combat fresh for a 7-10 hour game.

Re: Sony Playstation
Wolverine combat did look like something that would get stale after a while. I got bored in the Spiderman games pretty quickly. I appreciated the gore, though.
Control Resonant will be great because it's Remedy, but can that company pick a better release window? They send their games out to die. AW1 came out the same week as the OG Red Dead and AW2 came out like a week after Spiderman 2 and an Assassins Creed. September looks loaded and no one has enough money to buy them all in one month. Remedy makes incredible games but always complains about how they don't sell that well. Maybe pick your release dates better.

Complete agree about the release dates. Too many games in September. Move it to that late January/February window.scrub12 wrote: Wed June 03, 2026 8:46 pm Wolverine combat did look like something that would get stale after a while.
