Re: What movies are you watching?
It was funny, action-packed, and a perfect homage to the cartoon I adored. My kids (19 and 16 and also filmation fans) and wife all loved it as well. It’s colorful, has some great nods / Easter eggs, and Brian May’s music is fun. It’s absolutely bombing here in the States, and it’s a shame because it’s everything a mindless summer movie should be, and pretty much everyone who is going is raving about it. There are some nits I could pick, but overall I can’t believe how much they nailed it. It’s a bummer we’ll never get a sequel.

If you never watched the show, would it still be good?

You don’t need to know anything prior to follow and enjoy, but it’s impossible for me to be objective. I think it is a lot more fun than, say, the Fantastic Four.

Brendan Fraser as Eisenhower in Pressure was quite the bad choice

Re: What movies are you watching?
Sunday update on my big project. Oh no! Only two movies this week. I completed the seven hour Les Vampires, and watched the John Ford WWII not-propaganda movie They Were Expendable.
I'll try to put up better numbers this week. Right now I'm thinking of continuing with John Ford, for whom I still have five movies to see. Or digging into Abel Gance's Napoleon (there are a lot of versions of this, but I've decided to start by looking at the my most recent iteration of the Kevin Brownlow restoration, about 5.5 hours long).
256 to go

Yale is doing a free 30th Anniversary showing of Trainspotting next month, 35mm print from their archive. Might give that a shot if I don't happen to forget.

Power Ballad was really enjoyable, I saw it at the cinema. Paul Rudd plays a guy with a Pearl Jam poster displayed prominently on the wall of his home office. Check it out

Oh gosh, I wish I'd looked closer. In my memory, it's just big and red and it says PEARL JAM. It's in the movie a bunch of times

Re: What movies are you watching?
I liked it. It's uneven and too long and a lot of the humor is bad, but I liked the vibe and it looked good. The soundtrack was great and I liked how they explained the silly names. A lot of interesting commentary snuck in as well.daft twat wrote: Sun June 07, 2026 10:22 pmIt was funny, action-packed, and a perfect homage to the cartoon I adored. It's about 15 years too late I think. It's no longer even retro at this point. Maybe word of mouth will help it out.
I'm thinking the big spectacle popcorn movie might be dead for awhile.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I watched Heretic again and thought about it quite a bit and I think it's a great movie and I love it. Some of it went over my head on the first watch and I wasn't as impressed as I am now. It's brilliant. Great performances by all, but Hugh Grant, wow.
