Maybe when they get to Neil's age they'll want to really get into it all.
I'd hoped Neil would in his book, and he didn't. At all. Huge disappointment.

Honestly i don't really blame them. As much as im interested in all that stuff i can see why they don't wanna sit there and talk about bygone shit. It a shame cameron crowe didn't grow some balls and ask em the hard questions while he had them right there.

As for ed and his apartments, i hope that just means he...buys some more soon...or builds them....rents them? I WANT MORE ALBUMS

I'm not trying to be controversial but for it to really evolve they should spend a few years putting out an ep or record every few months and really challenge themselves.
It's all a bit comfortable as it stands.

The 33 1/3 book on Highway 61 Revisited was one of the most insightful and affecting revelations I've ever read about an album, and it certainly wasnt because there was so much material to draw from in Bob interviews. It was, aside from sidetrack moments about bootleg audio stuff and photo sessions, an intelligent person who had spent a lot of time with an album, detailing their personal reflections on it.

If you tell me there was tension in the band and that there was the potential for a break up, that's enough to inform my understanding of that aspect of it. And the problem is, all of those stories now are going to be shaded by memory. Unless you're Glen Frey, and time has only made you more impressed with your own dickishness, things get cloudy. Pete Townsend's book was great, and he is consistently insightful and poignant when talking about music, but even that book was occasionally an exercise in adjusted storytelling.

On the other hand, when I read Highway 61 described as the story of a journey down a mythical highway, through a surreal and Wonderlandish American landscape, rushing southward only to find that the intended destination of escape is already overloaded with the maddened ghosts of America's culture and memory...even the postcards they sold of a lynching in Bob's home territory, where the journey begins...I'm pretty sure I listen to that record more in the two months that followed then in the two years prior. My perception of the record was changed...or maybe just honed...in a way that Bob Dylan describing a trip he took to New Orleans doesn't accomplish.

I made the huge mistake of reading Pete and Neil's books back to back.
One was almost tiresomely exhaustive in its description of muse, writing, recording and life of the song afterwards. The other, completely barren if anything like that.

Such a head wreck.

That, and Pete can be really open about embarrassing or unflattering asides, and can go into great detail about specific events...and then breeze past any useful reflection on the music itself after about 1969.

Your fandom probably needs to change, because Pearl Jam has changed, but it doesn't need to disappear. I enjoy the current music, and the current band, in a different (more superficial) way than I enjoyed them before 2006. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. I enjoy them differently; they're just a different type of band now. They've changed, you've changed, now you just enjoy what you enjoy and leave the rest. I don't see the point of "moving on", personally, because I'm not sure where I would move on to. It's not like I never liked other bands; I have plenty of other musical interests, and always have. PJ used to be way better than all of them. Now they're just one of them, which is fine. But I've been a fan for 23 years, it's not going to just disappear.

They're not doing anything better or worse than they used to.
I watched two 95 shows on DVD last night and they were sort of awful.
Pj are a far better band now than they used to be. Live at least.
I'm just growing out of it I think.
