Something like that would depend entirely on whether your thoughts on the album are similar, or at least not at odds with the authors no? Like im pretty sure if i ever read an essay on binaural by stip it will make me a) wanna cry or b) throw the book out the window.

I was talking about the outside stuff like people mentioning tension in the band or with drummers for example during vitalogy/no code, when really we don't know what was going on. Though i guess you could avoid that shit completely.

You know if ed released a book it would be about how everything is a wave, or it would be chock full of the most over indulgent metaphors confined to one book. It'd either be glorious or head ache inducing.

The only way it'd be great would be if Stone read the audiobook, so we could hear the poorly suppressed deep, irritated "this is what has become of my life" breath that would punctuate every sentence.

I watched two 95 shows on DVD last night and they were sort of awful.
Pj are a far better band now than they used to be. Live at least.

Yea, I really do dislike the production on the album. Luckily, for me, the songs are strong enough for me to still be able to enjoy the hell out of it. I also think Ed sounds fantastic.

The production is brutal. You cant hear individual guitars you cant hear the band playing off each-other and all the instruments are throw in the middle with no space. It kind of sucks the soul out of the band and the music. BOB makes super fucking horrible choices and he is clearly about making it sounds like every other song on the radio. The chorus to infallible is brutal. I cant even decipher what the guitars are doing. THis may be a good thing, because it could be horribly bland.

Getaway actually benefits from this though. After a few disappointing live versions, it is pretty obvious that the music is fairly weak. The song works as a whole rather than individual puzzle pieces. It comes together pretty fantastic so the poor production choices actually work here.

BOB needs to go. I want to sit down with Mr. Vedder and give him a piece of my dome.

I still am loving the record though. The bridge for Yellow Moon is wonderful and sleeping by myself has grown on my big time as well.

Swallowed whole, while a good song, I am not a fan of eds guitar. It seems like it was plugged directly into a computer. It would have benefited greatly by allowing a nice room to capture the acoustics. Fuck BOB

After really digging it on the first few listens, Getaway really dropped away for me. Though the band do as much with it as they can, it's ultimately a pretty limited and threadbare musical idea.

I tend to skip that one, Sirens, Infallible and everything after Let the Records Play.

After really digging it on the first few listens, Getaway really dropped away for me. Though the band do as much with it as they can, it's ultimately a pretty limited and threadbare musical idea.

I tend to skip that one, Sirens, Infallible and everything after Let the Records Play.

The album version is just too contained.

They're a mystifying band. The place a pretty significant emphasis on being, at heart, a simple rock band that feels most in their element on-stage but make records that are stylistically closer to top 40 chart pop (in terms of recording techniques, etc.) They're a band with three guitarists where the guitars end up taking a backseat in the mix to the vocals and keyboards.

The LB outro is a goddamn abortion. It should explode with big guitars. A cathartic release. Yet, the guitars become non existent and you just hear those horribly plink plunk and drums.

Decisions like that are just incomprehensible. The last two records sound thoroughly sound stilted and airless compared to Vs through Yield and I think the nature of the recordings plays a significant role in that. The songs on Yield aren't a million miles away from the material on Backspacer and Lightning Bolt stylistically but the feel is dramatically different.

It's just a bummer.
