SOOOOOOO frustrated with our oldest right now. She graduated college in May and has been accepted to graduate school in Baltimore. She found a roommate and last weekend she and Mrs Wease met the roommate and her mom to compartment hunting. They found one they all liked and all that was left was for her to send in an application. Thru some weird Baltimore rule, every day they wait the rent goes up. Has she started the application yet? No. Any time we ask her about it, she just shuts down and leaves the room. She had a job interview 2 days ago. If we ask her if she’s heard anything from that, she shuts down and leaves the room. If we ask her if she’s started her Sallie Mae application, guess what happens? This is as adult as her life has ever been in that all her plans revolve around stuff she has to complete herself. And she has no interest in doing any of it. It’s like she has this plan, let someone else take care of making it happen so she can focus on doing what she’s planned. She doesn’t seem to grasp that if she doesn’t do her apartment application, she won’t have a place to live. And if she doesn’t have a place to live, then she won’t go to grad school. It is so maddeningly frustrating. Mrs Wease and I are both to the point of just letting it all fall apart on her and letting her deal with the fallout.

Maybe she doesn’t want to live in a compartment. Pretty cramped.

My wife is out of town all week. Our normal routine is different, but the kids are so well behaved when a parent is gone. It's wild. Both have been in bed before the normal time every night so far.

I get the other end of this. Two nights out of the week I miss dinner due to closing shifts at the restaurant. The first dinner I'm back, he's always a wild card. Then he smooths out the rest of the week.

I've managed to get my kid through kindergarten without traditional kids music. He's always listened to whatever we listen to and stuff he hears from his shows/movies. Top favorites at age six:

Yesterday he heard "Welcome to the Jungle" for the first time and accurately assessed it as "sounds like a monkey with a guitar".

Growing up with divorced parents, I always had two Christmases, so this is well within my comfort zone.

My sister just told me a wild story about my niece.

Apparently she's been keeping an egg wrapped in towels, stored on the top shelf in her room amongst her stuffies for THREE YEARS. Thank god it didn't crack and get her sick, but also... holy shit, eggshells are strong.

Mrs. Trag and I spent 3.5 hours poolside this weekend while our kid and our friend entertained themselves.

I was definitely more comfortable than ever with the kid at the resort pool last week. Of course in public spaces, I still kept close tabs because weirdos.
