Goose last night at the Garden. They came out to Go NY Go, and clips od the Knicks winning in the Finals - then played an exceptional set from
7:50-11:30ish that was a great mix between new songs, older songs, had Stuart Bogie play a set with them on various instruments (flute, sax, clarinet by my recollection), and finished with an encore covering Jim James’ State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U.). Fun night for sure.

Yes! I saw them last weekend at the Green River Festival in Massachusetts. Didn't know anything about them and thought they were very fun and exciting. Screaming and blasting guitars on one song, pedal steel twang on the next. Listening to the song "Phish Pepsi" at the moment, which is hilarious.

Green River Festival had a bunch of bands we wanted to see, and only 70 minutes from home, so we went two days:

Spoon (one of my favorite bands)
Geese (super intense, great show)
Wednesday (new to us, highly recommend)
Kurt Vile & the Violators (I'd seen him before but something about this set made me a fan, maybe the new songs)
Thao (have always wanted to see her and she did not disappoint)
Esther Rose (phenomenal singer/songwriter, did not disappoint)
Tunde Adembimpe (weird set because he sang by himself onstage to his pre-recorded music, but he's an amazing talent)
Ratboys (a lot of fun, they deserve the hype)
Lucius (eh, not for me - Dawes was the backup band and I find them talented but boring)
Fust (I was excited to see them but they did not stand out)
The Beths (new to me, they were funny and sweet, not my style but great show)
Hurray for the Riff Raff (very good but not my favorite)

I drove 6 hours alone to Kansas City yesterday to see Mark Hennessy of Paw perform Paw songs with some young musicians at Recordbar. Paw has two full length records, both released in the 90s, and I love them both. To hear the singer with his distinct voice belt those songs out was incredible. The room was packed with people who had come from all over the country - the couple next to me flew in from Portland, Oregon, and I heard a dude say he flew in from Maryland - and all of us were singing every word. It was honestly one of the best concert experiences of my life. It’s been a real rough couple weeks, but last night was pure joy.

Night 2. I was thankfully at night 1. I don’t know how I could possibly have made it through that second night with that tragedy.

Kurt Vile last night was majestic. I hear the words "slacker" and "laid back" thrown around a lot, but it boggles my mind how he can present these qualities while being so hard-working. His band is tight and disciplined. Everyone knew how to stretch out the songs without any wasted notes. Several cuts from (watch my moves) were highlights, and "Runner Ups" was a great surprise. New stuff sounded great, but the way they subtly updated the well-known classics blew me away. "Pretty Pimpin" and "Wakin' on a Pretty Day" sounded amplified and brand new.

10/10 go see him.
