Okay, the St. Vincent show with the NY Philharmonic was genuine joy. The venue (which I'd never been to) was exquisite and warm and I can't wait to go back. The sound was SOOOO good, so pure, and so enveloping.

Obviously the musicianship was unreal. Expert and moving. The Phil is goddamn great. The arrangements were masterful -- new and lush but without sacrificing what makes St. Vincent compelling. It was all complimentary and I could imagine Annie feeling like this is how some of these songs were "meant" to sound.

Annie was on fire! Her vocals were breathtaking. The way she sighed with the symphony as they also took a breath musically just wrecked me. And when she needed the crowd to let loose, she gave permission and we all were happy to go along with the ride. My section was respectful and locked-in. No one talked during the songs. No one sang along without Annie's encouragement. Yet everyone leaned forward and felt engaged. People in my section seemed genuinely thrilled to experience the night.

I cried a few times but the biggest was her guitar solo during 'Living in a Dream'. Usually instrumental music doesn't overwhelm me like that, but the combo of the symphony arrangement with that specific solo just broke me. It was so moving.

I've seen her do New York several times before but this was by far the most meaningful. She came out into the crowd and you could tell it was more meaningful for her too; getting to do THAT song here with the Phil. The energy in the room! It was unreal.

Other big highlights for me: Hell is Near (which I've seen live before but the song deserves an orchestra), The Nowhere Inn and Paris is Burning (songs I've never heard live before but are two big favorites and now I I can't imagine them without those lush, sexy arrangements), and that had to be my favorite version of Digital Witness so far (a song I've seen her play every time I've seen her live).

This was a special night. My best friend joined us -- he likes St Vincent and saw her at the Paramount with us on the All Born Screaming tour -- but he's not obsessed the way I am. He is a singer and a musician and he loves going to the Philharmonic, and he about lost his goddamn mind. Watching him freak out was maybe the single best part of the night.

Annie is such a singular talent. I can't believe I've gotten to see her work in so many different formats. What an absolute pleasure to live at the same time as Annie fucking Clark. I am so humbled and honored to have gotten to experience this show, because it really did feel singular.

I was kinda worried she was doing these and it could get a little cash grabby, but seems she might be exploring this sound to get into something else

I know she did a few shows with just a piano after MassEducation came out. This feels different than that. She seems like someone who just fucking loves music in all forms and loves playing around with her sound. I'd love for this to unlock something new for her, but honestly, her first two albums are chamber-pop albums. So this is something she's being playing with for a long time. It's almost more backward looking than forward, to some degree.

yeah, but i can understand why she did just a show first and then a whole tour. Most artists do this and it can be because its getting them into new territory or just a cash grab, and with Annie it seems we can expect a new jump into a different sound, like Daddy´s Home for example.
