yeah, i get that, mostly for the importance of the archive, but i think i still prefer a re worked version with Matt. This Is My Summation andOcean Fronts were the two songs Matt featured on instagram right? So they were working on those at least.

Listened to Carry On, and while i had fun and appreciated a bit more the effort, i think it was because its been forever since i put it. The songwriting is there but the production is just not good at all. A problem Cornell´s solo career had from this album onwards, everything trying to sound so polish and clean it doesnt translate well to his songwriting abilities.

For sure I'd love to hear modern takes with Matt - I thought Storm was great. I'm just also an obsessive when it comes to my favourite bands' early demos/material, and Soundgarden certainly fall into that camp. I wanna hear everything they put to tape!VinylGuy wrote: Sat July 18, 2026 1:24 pm yeah, i get that, mostly for the importance of the archive, but i think i still prefer a re worked version with Matt. Pretty much agree with this. I really liked Euphoria Mourning which is kinda telling as it's effectively a "band" with Alain & Natasha. His stuff after that always seemed, I dunno, self-indulgent is probably the wrong term but it's the closest I can think of that fits. Ironically, even though it was absolutely panned, his colab with Timbaland (Scream) is probably his only solo record I'd turn to besides EM.VinylGuy wrote: Sat July 18, 2026 3:09 pm Listened to Carry On, and while i had fun and appreciated a bit more the effort, i think it was because its been forever since i put it. I think it's very clear from his Soundgarden days, and his solo days, that Chris worked much better when paired/grouped with others and not totally allowed free-reign.

Different strokes I guess, I really like Carry On.
And I can’t make it through Scream.

I ve been listening to Scream, after Carry On and out little chat here, and the Tidal uncompress version is really good, im actually appreciating Timbaland´s production a bit more, even if i think its still the main problem. Chris´s songwriting and performance is still pretty fucking good.Buby wrote: Sun July 19, 2026 3:04 pm Different strokes I guess, I really like Carry On.

Also listening Audioslave´s Out Of Exile on Tidal, and im really enjoying Tim C´s performance. Really nuanced when its need to be, but mostly super groovy and direct. I love how it functions as a second guitar sometimes or how he fills the space when Morello is doing small stuff.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
Why do I remember Ed saying something like "Timbaland, isn't that a shoe brand?" when asked for a comment about Scream
Did I just dream that or does someone else remember this?
Anyway, haven't read the book yet but it's not that difficult to think that Chris did the Soundgarden reunion only for money. I mean after the backslash of Scream he really seem to take a different approach and started to talk a lot more about Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and the good ol' days of Seattle. I wonder what he was like on that Temple of the Dog tour, did he hang out with the rest of the guys and did he travel with them or by himself.

Does pj travel together ?
I would assume they don’t at that level. I was actually surprised when they said they were traveling by bus.
Totd was a short run, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did the bus thing there too.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
I dont remember Ed referring to Scream no. I remember Kim saying that he liked what Chris intended and that with the band would have been better, so yes the finger was pointing to Timbaland.
But its well known that after Chris married with Vicky and moved to Paris he pretty much left Seattle behind and after Audioslave was gone, he needed a creative partner to bounce back ideas, i think his approach was to try to be a bigger rock and pop artist with an album with Steve Lillywhite, an album with Timbaland, another stuff like a resto in paris or the jeans ad, and once all of that failed to get the attention he was looking for, the smart move was to go back to Soundgarden. Lets not forget his fight with Susan Silver, most probably fueled by his wife Vicky.
I think Chris did it both for the money and the creative outlet. It was clear he actually got more in line with a creative path for his solo career too once he was doing music with the band again in Seattle. He also got back to the PJ camp around those years and probably with his daughter.
Thats why his suicide dont make sense at all, dude was actually having a very cool and interesting solo career with tons of projects and recording a touring with SG.

He embraced all his albums around Carry On came out. He even put them on his website back then and talked a lot about Temple Of The Dog...and started doing covers in the second Audioslave tour.contamination wrote: Thu July 23, 2026 9:15 am Why do I remember Ed saying something like "Timbaland, isn't that a shoe brand?" when asked for a comment about ScreamDid I just dream that or does someone else remember this?

Found it, it was from Uncut magazine 2009:
https://www.pearljamonline.it/en/qa-wit ... 6-08-2009/Seeing as you were both icons of grunge, what do you think of Chris Cornell’s new LP with Timbaland? -Einat Shaul, Israel
I haven’t heard it. Isn’t Timbaland a make of shoe? It’s a producer? I don’t know who that is. Oh well. I really like Chris’ records and I think he’s the best singer that we’ve got on the planet. I first met Chris when I moved to Seattle, and we started hanging around. I didn’t know what musicians did with their life, and I quickly realized that what he did on a Friday night was to get a 12-pack of shitty beer and chase his dog around on the mud for four hours in the forest. That was about an exciting an epiphany as I had! I haven’t seen him in town for a while, but I have taken over the whole dog-chasing practice – me and my Hawaiian mutt. The beer’s gotten slightly better too.
