Saw Tori Amos last nigh at The Beacon. It was my second time ever seeing her live (the last was in 2002 in Chicago) and this was my wife's first time seeing her live.

The show was incredible. We both had a great time and continue to marvel at Tori's presence and ability to engage an audience so completely even as her voice wains. The last time I saw her Matt Chamberlin was on drums and last night it was Earl Harvin, whom I am unfamiliar with, but the dude is out there doing the Lord's work! He's outstanding and really vibes with Tori's whole thing.

An alarm went off at the end of one song and Tori had to figure out what was happening. It turned out someone went out an alarmed emergency exit door. She made jokes about it and improvised a new song where she and her three back-up singers harmonized with the alarm. It was pretty baller.

She played Me And A Gun (a tour debut) and The Waitress (also a tour debut) and both were incredible. Me And A Gun wrecked me. I'm not sure how anyone in that small theater could have been dry-eyed and/or unmoved. Jesus...

The show had a bit of a "farewell tour" feel to it. She played songs from all over her full canon, but only one song from her latest release. So, I wonder... Maybe she'll tour again, but if she doesn't, than I'm so thrilled we got to see her at such an iconic venue. What a special talent she is.

As a newcomer first time seeing Phish at MSG, I didn’t come in with a bingo card - knowing that they play whatever every night. I had heard the Wednesday night show was 1992 night (in honor of their 92nd show at the venue). I went Friday, 1993 night. The only song I assumed we’d get was Maze off Rift (we got that). The rest I wasn’t so sure. And if I made a list of songs I wanted, frankly much of it would have been from A Live One, since that’s what I heard the most. Getting Gumbo, Chalkdust Torture, and Slave to the Traffic Light all seemed so improbable - add to that covers of La Grange, Sparks, and Good Times Bad Times. A second set opener of 2001, a raucous Suzy Greenberg and wild finish with Fluffhead, and the performance of the night for me, which was a jaw dropping version of The Divided Sky, and this ended up being one of the best concerts I have ever seen. What a night.

saw Annie Clark on Wednesday. Was about 10 feet away from her throughout the show. She’s really quirky. And she sounded awesome. Glad I saw her in that setting.

my client is a sponsor for Lollapalooza and gave me free VIP passes for the weekend. I had no desire to go, and was going to give them to a colleague. but on Friday, another colleague came by and asked if I wanted to go. I figured I’d catch Oklou and Slayyyter and get out of there. while walking we heard that Slayyyter got moved to a bigger stage where she would play earlier. we got there, got a couple of beers, and moved right up to the rail in the VIP section (note: this was behind the premier section, so we were about 25 yards away).

Slayyyter was amazing. Like, one of the best festival performances I’ve ever seen. Backing band was tight, and she blistered through most of her new album. St Loser owned. It was so good that Oklou was a letdown after (and she was awesome too). Both performances were PACKED.

Slayyyter’s going to be a star.

I didn’t go to this, but Goldfinger played the Hollywood Palladium last night, and all 4 original members did 3 songs together. It was the first time since 1999. Would have loved to have seen that. They were such a force in my life back then. I think I saw them 4 times in one year. I didn’t know what I had.
