The Byrds

Post by washing machine »

I don't play these albums enough anymore. They made some of my favorite music of the psychedelic era. Music that, while mostly grounded in traditional song structures, often veered towards the strange. The perfect blend of pastoral harmony and cosmic melody.

I hereby open this thread with track one from 1968's The Notorious Byrd Brothers.

"Artificial Energy"

Sweetheart of the Rodeo with Gram Parsons is a great record. I have a couple of their earlier (more famous) records but haven't given them much time yet. But whenever I'm on a country kick I always look to anything with Gram in it.

Always fun when you do a search before starting a thread and find what you’re looking for...written by you.

Anyway, I guess I’m pretty consistent in my fandom because I’ve got Notorious Byrd Brothers spinning on the stereo again. It’s not quite fall temperatures here but it’s close enough. This music always makes the most sense to me in October/November. Those jangly guitars are the sounds of leaves falling and phantom whiffs of wood burning as the seasons change.

Just bought Fifth Dimension last week. Previously I had only ever listened to The Greatest Hits.
