I just realized that I've never read your take on Neil Young. I may have missed it or perhaps it's just never come up. Anyways, what is your take on Neil Young?theplatypus wrote:Waits is probably my second or third all-time favorite musician. I think I see him the way a lot of people in this forum see Neil Young, as a musical genius and also a personal hero of sorts. Ditto on Frank Zappa, though.bada wrote:Yeah I hear you. I'm not trying to be a a$$ or saying people are idiots to like him. In fact I can see liking or appreciating him but to LOVE him seems weird. I just don't see that level of appeal. Another example would be Frank Zappa. I can appreciate him especially the musicianship which is off the charts but to LOVE him? When people say they love Tom Waits its almost like I don't believe them. I just don't get it.

I dunno. I like his stuff okay, but I can't get too excited about it. I own "Rust Never Sleeps", "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" and "Harvest". I don't really care to explore further.surface the north wrote: I just realized that I've never read your take on Neil Young. I may have missed it or perhaps it's just never come up. Ah. Not that I really care one way or another, but "Round Round (It Won't Be Long)" sounds pretty damn good on your headphones, amirite?

I bet you don't like Neil Young because he's a sloppy musician. Fucking Jerk.

Re: Top 10 (Non Pearl-Jam)
Couple of things:
First, I also feel that way about Radiohead. I mean, I own most of their albums, but I just can't last more than 15 minutes with them...I am somehow unwilling to go to their headspace no matter how hard I try.
Second, I could never ever make this list. I try once every few years to list my 50 favorite albums and it takes many hours. I don't know that I am even capable of listing 10 favorite songs since there would be hundreds more that could fill the same space - and I don't even listen to that many albums a year.

Why on Earth would anyone own most of the albums by a band they don't care to listen to?

Re: Top 10 (Non Pearl-Jam)
I own the Bends because I enjoy most of the songs on the album. I actually do really like OK Computer and Kid A. It's after this that I kept getting their albums in the hopes that I could connect with it, and it just didn't work. The King of Limbs was the first Radiohead album that I just didn't bother with. I think my take is that OK Computer was the last album where the electronic blips and bloops accented their sound rather than dominated it. The first time it dominated, I felt like it worked for them (Kid A). Everything that followed just didn't feel the same for me, but I held out hope because everyone seemed to enjoy the next albums (since most of what I hear is from word of mouth, it seemed worth a shot). Does this explain it?Heathen wrote:Why on Earth would anyone own most of the albums by a band they don't care to listen to?

I guess it does. Your previous post made it look like you didn't enjoy any of their albums and still kept buying them.

Re: Top 10 (Non Pearl-Jam)
There are some bands that seem to suck you in album after album but you never quite embrace it totally. I know for me, there isn't as many albums released each year that I want to buy. Sometimes I am roaming best buy and see the new Collective Soul CD for 9.99 and say, sure why not. I have almost every Collective Soul album. I like the band. I always go back to the well and yet seem to be only moderately impressed with my purchase.
It sounds stupid, I agree. But, does anyone get what I am saying?

It's The Mars Volta for me. I like them and am impressed by their music, but I don't love them and haven't really listened to each album more then once.Brainof23 wrote:There are some bands that seem to suck you in album after album but you never quite embrace it totally. I mostly feel that way about Radiohead as well... with one glaring exception - In Rainbows. Give that a full dedicated listen and you won't be disappointed.liebzz wrote:I own the Bends because I enjoy most of the songs on the album. I actually do really like OK Computer and Kid A.
