So much over-pronunciation and syllable-splitting.

It's bizarre to me because I think I'd have to be putting extra effort in to pronounce shit like that while singing. I'm not an actual singer though so what do I know.

I have two guesses about this: He turned to doing this because he got bored of the way he used to sing...OR, somehow, this over-pronounciation is his way to make up for losing his robust vocal cords. Either way, it's got to stop, as it makes every current bootleg not worth listening to.

I can see stuff getting warbley or less controlled on longer notes but I dont see how saying 'meyahn' instead of 'man' or 'ouha' instead of 'a' can help, plus he's doing it on studio stuff too. Yeah its off putting when listening to any new live stuff, more so than any guitar tones or increased tempo or anything like that. Hopefully he tones it down eventually.

totally agree. on this record, there exists some of their best songs. some of these songs are just (imho) over produced. too much wanky organ / piano crap - lightning bolt is a good example of this.

I wasn't really talking about production, although I generally agree. The faults in Ed's singing are Ed's fault. Having said that, the liner knows list Boom as playing keyboard as well, so I guess we don't really know how much of it is BoB, or if it is all BoB, why Boom is in the notes.

I think he sounds terrible there but the whole period is romanticized in all our minds. We were kids and in love with a band but I think the shit they get mocked for her nowadays has been prominent throughout their career.

I see what Strat is saying though I don't agree he sounds that bad there. But no one will be willing to admit that the 2006-2009 versions of the same song could be better than this (they are in my opinion). Instead, you'll find people looking for things to pick on.

Yeah..I think its more about Eddie figuring how to actually play guitar than being drunk. He's way better on the guitar nowadays than he was back then. In my opinion. Didn't really see anything other than that on here. Besides..I can't fathom how hard it is to pay attention to my chords when there's a sea of people in front of me.

Im willing to bet that had there been an Internet a youtube and a red mosquito back then there would have been a few people complaining then too.

Im liable to prefer older versions of songs just because I love eddies tone of voice back then, the 06 version of this is good though, and the guitar is much better. Anything post 06 has to be awesome enough to cou teract any of the weird pronunciation things etc. I think theres a good version from the solo shows around somewhere.
