Did she enjoy India? I don’t think I’d go there if the trip was free. I’d wanted to see the pyramids my whole life and they surpassed my expectations. There is nothing in India I really want to see, and it’s really the one culture I have no interest in. I suppose that’s awful to say, but I don’t like curry so the food is not a draw, I dislike the accent as much as a southern American accent, and I have no interest in the Hindu religion. Plus they have cobras and, in my experience, wear polo shirts when they work out.
She did, as she loves the food and ended up in Udaipur in a fancy resort hotel for work.

Did the crowded Egyptian roads reek of exhaust? She didn’t love that aspect of India.

They did not. They frequently reeked of camel and horse shit, though.

I suppose just about anywhere has stricter pollution restrictions than India.

My dad is from India and I went a decade or so back. That country is not for the faint of heart. We ate a lot of good food, but every time you get in a vehicle there you are putting your life in danger. The driving is horrifying. No side mirrors and everyone just honks to tell you they're getting over. Taj Mahal is legit, though.

I went to Cairo when I was younger. Seeing the pyramids up close is still one of the coolest things I've ever done.

Spent a few days at "the world's largest log cabin" in Montebello, Quebec. Had some duck. Had some bison. I even had a goddamn poutine (the curds were top-tier). Great time

Think I'll probably go to Vegas in October. Hope it's not too hot. Business and pleasure.

Virgin AU sent us a message asking if we’d like to move up our departure to an earlier flight today, so we took it under suspicion of weather delays otherwise. Puts us in the VIP lounge for lunch now, which is fine by me as the fries I had last time were amazing and the beer was super cold and crisp.

I’m determined to spend my 50s (starting next year) taking at least one big trip every year until I retire at 60 or 62. RM travelers, map out your next decade of travel in an ideal scenario.

Here is what I’ve come up with by age:
50 - Alaska (whole family) and Delaware (just me and my wife). These are the only two states we have left. Crossing off all 50 at age 50 would be satisfying.
51 - Rio and Buenos Aires (last whole family trip?) We were on our way to Rio when my mom died. I’d like to make it happen and add a few days visiting Jorge.
52 - Thailand and Vietnam. This is where I see travel becoming just my wife and I. I’ve never been anywhere in Asia. I’d like to do 2-3 weeks here.
53 - Scandinavia. I know that’s broad. My wife and I are both teachers. I could see us spending 5-7 days in each of the 4 countries. Also, the next World Cup will be going on. I’d like to spend it in Europe but not the countries it’s in.
54 - Botswana. I like The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. I want to visit one sub-Saharan place in Africa and do a safari. This is my current choice.
55 - Oz and New Zealand. I’ve been to these places but my wife has not. I’m thinking a month to drive along the east coast and visit the southern island of New Zealand since I was only in Auckland 27 years ago.
56 - Japan. I don’t know. I’m not super drawn to it, but seeing Mt. Fuji and Kyoto would be cool.
57 - I’d like to do a month in Europe where we take trains to different cities - Zurich, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, and Budapest - and just sort of lazily explore each and the areas around them. Again, it’s a World Cup year so pubs would be fun.
58 - Portugal and Northern Spain. I actually see this as a chance to consider places we’d spend our winters in retirement.
59 - Croatia. This is where my family is from. I’d love to spend a couple weeks here and then fly to Petra in Jordan.
60- Chile and Antarctica. I’d love for my last trip before retirement to be to the 7th continent.

It’s pretty pie in the sky, but it’s not completely unrealistic. I just don’t want to wait until I’m retired to see what I want to see. If we could do this, travel in retirement would be (hopefully) taking the grandkids to Disneyland and revisiting a few of our favorite places like Paris and the Amalfi coast.
