Mema Wease is proving to be quite a frustration for Papa Wease. She’s not really felt great for the past few years. She ended up having a double bypass and we all hoped that would be a wake up for her. But she only half-assed her rehab after that and now she’s back to hardly ever taking her meds and just sitting around doing nothing while complaining that she doesn’t feel good.

Papa Wease finally just asked her a couple of days ago if she’s just wanting to die, because she’s sure not acting like she wants to stay alive. Don’t know how this will all turn out.

Damn Papa. How old is she?

Man, no one’s parents got old this summer?

I’m up at the family cabin. It was left to my sister and me, but it’s about to be just hers. I mowed the little lawn when we got here; all the flowers my mom planted are still alive. That’s odd to me. Two months later and I’m realizing that my grieving process is not complete. I have almost no social media activity, but I posted during our family trip. I noticed that she didn’t “like” or comment on any of them. My youngest son got his first job. I was excited to tell her. It’s an incredible void losing a parent.

It's 4 and a half months since my mom passed and I'm still all fucked up about it. I hope I will get to feel normal again someday.

You will, but it takes awhile. And you’ll be a new normal, a bit sadder/wearier, but also stronger.

sorry to hear that wease. i can empathize with your moms situation a bit. My step father was alive for 11 years after my mom passed. friday before easter in '23 he said he just wanted to go be with my mom. a hospital trip later on saturday they kept him overnight. he refused his medication and kept saying he wanted to be with his wife. it was heart breaking. the man was 92 years old. Easter day, 10 minutes after my brother and I left the hospital he passed. got the call when we got home which was only a 15-20 minute drive.

for spike and Jorge I think i have said this before but it bears repeating (and to ever who else needs to hear it). the grief you feel when someone passes never changes. you just learn how to handle it better.

During our debacle yesterday, I told Papa Wease about the oldest Weaseling’s car and how she’ll be using mine until we get hers fixed. So while we were broken down he asks me if we’re going to Uber to our hotel. And I asked him why would we do that? Because we don’t have her car here.

So today we tell him her car is fixed and he asked if we were driving back home to get it.

Also, he won’t upgrade his phone from the iPhone 5 he’s been using for years and he gets mad at me because he can’t receive any more pics or watch YouTube videos anymore.

Dad turned 70 last week and we had a little bday party with the family yesterday. He is in great shape and still working like day 1, so im very happy with how both of my parents are doing. It was a little sad because it was the first bday for him with his wife gone, and he was clearly missing her but he took a good route and just decided to talk about her, remember stuff, having a photo of her nearby, etc.

Mom has been gone for 2 and a half months now. Called to check in on my dad today. An hour and 40 minutes later, we said, “Goodnight, love ya.” He worked 16 hour days frequently when I was a kid so I spent more time with my mom. Now I’m getting this time with him. It’s kind of awesome.

I had typed up a big paragraph about the circumstances of losing my mom and dad about 10 years apart but my eyes really welled up and well I am at work and dont want to explain it to anyone

just remember (everyone) no matter how shitty or how bad or even how good your parents were or the relationship you have with them make sure you make some time to visit them or call because one day you are going to make that call or visit and you wont be able to

last weekend at the sushi place, my MiL started choking. She's had a rare lung condition for like 12 years now, and asphyxiation was long since flagged as something to monitor, so FiL learned how to do the Heimlich. But when the moment came, he couldn't make it happen, so I had to yell "Is there a doctor in the house?!" at the top of my lungs; some woman came and saved her life.

The vibes were bad after; I just know they've been bickering for the past week about how he couldn't pull it off. For my part, I'm scared to dine with her again. Traumatic and stressful. Both our parents aren't in decline exactly, but we're getting to the phase where it's always something...

That’s awful, and pretty traumatic to witness. Glad someone was able to help. Did your FIL just not remember the proper technique, or was he like too weak to pull it off? Concerning stuff if it happens at home just the two of them.
