I'm finally watching the extended epk. Sometimes I forget how good MYM really is. And Sirens is also a song I think I'm gonna love for a long time.

Is the version in the extended epk different than the studio and the other existing live version?

arggh, they stopped it before the outro. Why does God hate that part of the song?

I think I've got it near the middle, but the newness of the rest of the album still gives the other songs an advantage

It's lower middle tier for me. Love the opening couple of bars and wish they'd done more with it. Drum performance/production gives it a limping feel plus the derivative B grade riff annoys me. I can still hear this without getting angry at the band though which is more than a couple of the LB tracks.

I always have problems with the first single. I can't give it the right attention within the album b/c I've been hearing it for months in advance. Always happens, really like the song though.

So I saw the extended EPK and I think I get why they're hesitant to play Getaway. Cause it sounds pretty ragged when they're playing it live on that. I think it's an insane vocal take that Ed captured that is extremely hard to do on a nightly basis.

Basically this. Matt's non-performance brings this down a lot for me, and also the chorus which just seems a bit blaaaaah when they had an opportunity to make it kick ass. It's not bad though, and I really like the outro still.

the verses are the weakest part musically, for sure (it is similar to comatose but lacks the fuck it all abandon of that take), but eddie is turning in a great performance, the lyrics are quite good, and the chorus/bridge is just wonderful. And the solo and outro are quite good.

I'd put Swallowed Whole's solo above this one.

The only solo I flat out love is the one in lbolt after the first verse.

Other than Sirens there aren't any I think are bad or anything. But they aren't the high points of the songs in the way they are on, say, Riot Act, where it was safe to say if there was a Mike solo in a song it was my favorite part of the song.

I think MYM is the only one that really struck me, probably cause it sounded like it was out of Mike's typical wheelhouse.

My initial reaction to LB (from memory):

Love it (4.5-5 stars): My Father's Son, Lightning Bolt, Pendulum, Swallowed Whole, Let the Records Play (5)
Like it (4 stars): Mind Your Manners, Sirens, Infallible (3)
Ok/Not Bad (3-3.5 stars): Sleeping By Myself, Future Days (2)
Not Sure/Disappointed (2-2.5 stars): Getaway, Yellow Moon (2)
Overall: 4 stars

3 weeks into LB:

Love it (4.5-5 stars): My Father's Son, Pendulum, Swallowed Whole (3)
Like it (4 stars): Mind Your Manners, Sirens, Infallible, Lightning Bolt, Let the Records Play, Sleeping By Myself (6)
Ok/Not Bad (3-3.5 stars): Future Days, Getaway, Yellow Moon (3)
Overall: 4 stars

A lot of regression to the mean... but that mean is still a very solid 4 star album.

You still love Swallowed Whole, and as this thread has proven, that is the important thing.
