I skip Given To Fly pretty much every time it comes on
Oddly enough...It's the only song on Yield that I skip now days.
I have no shame in saying that I like Red Dot & Push Me Pull Me more than Given to Fly in 2026
Mind you, It's still better than Sirens, Just Breathe, Future Days or The End
But equally as disappointing when it makes it onto the setlists.

A recurring dream for me involves poking around in a record store and finding something, by a favorite band, that I'd never heard of before and featuring unreleased songs, etc. Often it's a Pearl Jam or R.E.M. album with bonus tracks or something, since those are the two bands I collected most heavily in the 1990s.exc

Last night in my dream I found a very inexpensive official bootleg, from appearances the 2000 North American leg, and the setlist featured a ton of cover songs that must have been punk/hardcore songs strewn throughout the set. It was marked down from $40 (!) to $6.99 so I was very excited to buy it, and I was absolutely sure that this time, it wasn't a dream, and I would actually get to listen to it. Smdh.

My boys (7 and 3) kind of love Getaway these days. I've heard it a lot, it's been stuck in my head a lot, and I still like it.

The lyrics to Getaway have always felt grating to me, and maybe a little too trite.
And nowadays I find the message stale too. Which I'm thankful that's the case. U.S. society has made incredible progress. Christianity and scolding as the kind of solution to everything was getting meaningfully beat back in 2013 and is certainly defanged now.
There are still major issues (Texas state politics are really fucked still like with the Ten Commandments in public classrooms) but from my perspective a different kind of fight is called for today.

Actually, giving the song a fresh critical listen, it's fun to interpret it as being anti-woke lol

started watching bridge school 94 last night and had to turn it off after 3 songs

Ed really must have been an insufferable band mate in that era

he had just vanquished Dave A and the rest of the band (except jack) look so stressed

they went from being a rocking and grooving bunch to a perma-sad angry repressed group under ed’s lion paw of manopause

you could see where jeff might start skating toward departure being around such a tightly wound control freak
