Ive been slowly migrating off of Chrome/Google lately. I'm switching to Brave browser and Proton. It's not without its troubles, but it might work.

Today is the first day I am viewing Red Mosquito from Brave browser. A momentous occasion.

I ate at a sushi place that was having some kind of anime night (which seems a little on the nose imo) and these ladies next to me were speaking Chinese, which somehow my phone decided was me repeatedly asking for Siri. Since this day my socials have been completely overrun with random anime themed ads. I have location services turned off as a rule but had turned them on to ask Siri for directions to this place while I was driving, so now my punishment is Meta being convinced I’m a fucking weeb

The data brokers are something which don't seem to get a lot of attention even though they are in the center role when it comes to you seeing particular ads online. Oracle is one of them and they claim to have data on 5 billion people. This website https://www.iccl.ie/news/class-action-against-oracle/ has an excellent video where the CEO of Oracle explains what kind of information they have and can get, and how they use it to predict the next purchase.

Data brokers have even reportedly sold lists of rape victims, alcoholics and erectile dysfunction sufferers. Or, they have segmented consumers with biased labels, for example, “rural everlasting” (single men and women over the age of 66 with little education and small net worth)
