Pirates of the Caribbean Marathon

Curse of the Black Pearl : still fantastic. Just a really fun world that was created. Great score, too.
A+

Dead Man's Chest and At World's End : I liked these a bit more on rewatching. Sure, they're bloated messes, but they have their moments of fun spectacle and they still look terrific. This sort of popcorn movie seems to be more of a rarity these days. The forced love triangle drama with Turner and Elizabeth is a big waste of time, and the plot doesn't make much sense, but I feel like there are more hits than misses.
B and C+

On Stranger Tides : a big step down. If the previous sequels were bloated, this one is stripped down and enshittified. Sparrow has worn out his welcome. Ian McShane is sleepwalking through the movie and seems like he doesn't want to be there. Gore Verbinski's excellent direction and worldbuilding are missed badly. All the grime and filth and shadows and inventive sequences of the previous movies is replaced with flat lighting and boring medium shots and tedious swordfights.

Dead Men Tell No Tales : Never saw this one and forgot it even existed. This was a struggle to get through. A tired formulaic retread. All the magic is gone. This is little more than TV. Sparrow is entirely cartoon at this point. The new Turner/Elizabeth clones are awful. I wish they'd die. The only real bright spot is Javier Bardem.

Jeffrey Rush's Barbossa is the best thing about the series. He's always a blast to watch.

Watched Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie and found it just okay. I didn't dislike it, I found the characters endearing and I appreciate its themes of choosing friendship or whatever but I don't get the rapturous reception. Only occasionally funny and the whole "HOW did they MAKE this??" angle seems super overblown

My girlfriend lost her patience and left the room about halfway through but I persevered and was rewarded with................... an ok movie

I hate to say it, but you need to dump your girlfriend. Try to get another Canadian one.

I must admit my wife could not get into it either. It's not for everyone.
