Wow, what do they pay teachers in Minnesota?

Well, my wife and I are both teachers in the Twin Cities with Masters plus 60 (the only step above is a phd and we won’t be doing that) entering our 27th year teaching so we’re at the top of the pay scale, each making between $105k and $110k. After teaching for 3 years in California, my first year salary teaching in Minnesota in 2003 was $29k. Basically, if you stick with it and get education, it can be a well-paying job about 20 years in. Edit: $105k today has the purchasing power of $58k in 2003 so it took a quarter century for my salary to double.

It’s also lifestyle though. I have a teaching friend more senior than me who never goes anywhere, but he goes out to eat several times a week and often both nights on weekends. I just prefer to eat well at home for 50 weeks to have memorable meals on vacation for two weeks.

Booked a week in Belize after Christmas. Heading inland for a few days, including going to a national park in Guatemala. Then it’s the beach and snorkeling for a few days before returning to the Minnesota winter. Furnace will kick on tonight for the first time this fall. Nice to have something to look forward to now tho.
