Up until about a year ago, I still occasionally played High Heat Baseball 2002 on my 11 year-old PC. Every time I played the Reds, I would still throw one pitch at Aaron Boone's head per game.

Yeah it doesn't sing quite as much. But it still hurts to watch.

True story, I have never seen the Aaron Boone home run. I looked away when he made contact and have avoided seeing it in the ten years since.

I don't remember if I watched at the time, we may have all hung our heads. I do remember the silence, which was only broken by a Yankees fan in the next dorm chanting: "Let's go, Red Sox!"

So the Red Sox are denying the Cubs permission to interview Luvello for manager, eh?

In a weird way, it's almost good that it happened as our generation got our curse moment so we could appreciate winning more.

i dunno. on the one hand i agree, on the other hand, pedro getting two rings would have been nice... assuming of course that the sox would double-down after winning in '03 (which of course would have happened).

that playoff run in 03 was just as fun as 04 and this past season. I still remember it with fondness instead of being angry about the ending. I f'ing loved that team.

I'll never forget Nixon's walk-off homer on my birthday freshmen year.

I always look at it this way. Both the 2003 team and the 2008 team had strong chances to win the world series. Our first two in 86 years could have been 4, two back to back.

p.s. Props to you from all the Montrealers in my office, it's the general consensus that Boston is the best city to live in as a sports fan.
that's a big no shit right there. i've had discussions about this with friends. if you were a new england sports fan in your teens in the early 2000s, you're living a charmed life. 3 super bowls, 3 world series, a stanley cup, and an nba title, and you're not even 30 yet. here in minnesota we still cling to 87 and 91. and we're really glad we couldn't find a role on our club for a guy named ortiz.
You're right. But if you were born in the mid 80s you got the glory years of the last 12 years, but you also remember very well how in the 90s Boston was the biggest joke sports city in the country.
Yeah, I was born in the late 70s, so while I got to enjoy the Celtics run in the early to mid 80s, the loss to the Bears in the Super Bowl still stings, as does Buckner.

And then you have 1986-2001, which pretty much sucked. Lots of good teams, but no titles.

Now it's what? 3 Super Bowls, 3 World Series, 1 Cup and 1 NBA title since 2002? Man, just when I thought this thing would end...it keeps going.

I'm afraid that when I'm 50, 60 or 70....we're gonna go back to sucking again. :)
coach is 49 years old, guys. who's planning his "silver" party?!
I'm only 36! and feel great!

Regardless of any burnt bridges, it would be pretty messed up if the Red Sox got back at him by actively suppressing the career aspirations of a staff member. It's not like he would be trying to get on as a bench coach somewhere else... a managerial position is a massive step up.

I'm guessing opportunities to manage 1 of 30 MLB teams don't come around very often. And if they're pissed at Theo for one reason or another, it sucks that Lovullo has to be the collateral damage.
