It was good, nothing special, pretty much the album version. I actually thought Eddie would have a hard time keeping up with the tempo(like he does most nights with MYM) but it came off good.bluestate wrote:Was it any good when you saw it live? It doesn't seem like that hard of a song to pull off live. If they can play stuff like Got Some and get away with it, they should be able to rip this song.numbers wrote:They've pretty much dropped this from the setlists already, makes me happier that I saw it live than I was at the time.

Re: My Father's Son
I think this might be my favourite on the album. It's definitely in my top three, but there's something about it that I really like. I'm still not sold on the bridge (I think the bridge is good, but seems out of place... But maybe that's what I like about it?).
Also, wasn't this the song at the listening parties that people said they couldn't tell who was singing it?? I don't understand that, I don't hear anything different in Ed's voice..

I think a few said that they were sure at first who was singing it, and most everyone said they didn't know how to describe what they were hearingTass Man wrote:I think this might be my favourite on the album. Yeah i was expecting the weirdest song they've ever recorded, and a hilarious sham of a song respectively. (got the second in sirens thoughstip wrote:yeah, I'm not sure why this one troubled people as much as it did.

A few people said they thought it was stone singing at first, which i dont get at all, but they only had one listen in a room full of people so..

Re: My Father's Son
After listening to this track for a few weeks, I like it but I think it needed a better middle then what they added, it just doesn't go with the rest of the song. I like ed's vocals on this, sounds like a track they could own live if they played it more. But it looks like it's already been dropped from the rotation.

I wondered this same thing. I thought I even read that somebody thought it was Stone singing at first. ??? It sounds like Ed to me, right off the hop.

For what's it's worth, I think this tune has a great bridge. The "faraway lights rising in the whites of your eyes" part into the last verse is full of amazing tension, at least to my ears.

I'd like an album full of MFS's.

As far as the bridge goes, I like how Matt switches gears when it goes from 5/4 to 4/4.

Re: My Father's Son
This track, along with Swallowed Whole, really make this album work for me. I'm not sure what I would do without them.

I have no feelings either way on this one.
Truth be told I can't remember how it goes.

agreed...I like the bulk of the album (the only song I'm not too keen on at all is Sleeping By Myself), but this and Swallowed Whole are just really connecting with me
