At the end of the day, it's still two bands peddling themselves as a brand. One is just cartoonish about it, and the other isn't.
Did Kiss do anything seriously, ever?

No. Which is kinda why it's pointless to make fun of them or their fans for that type of thing. And why it's so much fun to make fun of Pearl Jam about it.

Do you think Gene Simmons considers Kiss to be anything other than a brand/business operation?

Well, Kiss Unmasked was a huge artistic statement IMO.

I suppose I'm not old enough to appreciate that. My knowledge of Kiss is very retrospective.

What is particularly sad about this comparison is that Kiss often get it right and when they do it can be spectacular. The Kiss conventions they did in 95 with an acoustic show plus meet and greets were really good. But the music has been secondary since 77/78.

Who here wouldn't pay $150 for a 75 min acoustic PJ set with only 500 people present?

edit: Unmasked was the first or second album I owned aged 5.

Exactly! Tune it to your liking, just 30 seconds in the microwave or half an hour in the fridge to keep your loved one at the temperature they deserve! Handy straw for stirring and keeping the temperature uniform, or for using as an actual straw if all you've ever wanted so much was to feel closer to the person.

Kiss Unmasked was like if Picasso painted guitar, drums, bass and then hired the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to play them.*

Basically, I think Pearl Jam (Ed Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Matt Cameron, Mike McCready, Boom) can still have artistic intentions even while Pearl Jam (Tim Bierman, Kat, Sea, The Rob, Mike McCready's cousin Phil, the guy BOB hired to beat Jeff, et al) sells dog collars.

Also, there is this: I don't care.

*No
