That nobody in the Pearl Jam organisation thought to say "that's a really dumb idea" seems, to me, indicative of a greater malaise. Does anyone there actually like music, follow bands, buy records? It seems hard to believe.stip wrote:Are you against it becauseBirds in Hell wrote:It's not that hard.stip wrote:As long as the shit sells out instantly it is hard to fault 10c for making it

I'm unimpressed mainly by the cynicism I see behind the mountains of merchandise junk Pearl Jam releases; the KISS comparisons really aren't that absurd. As you said, the attitude seems to be "if these morons are dumb enough to buy it, we'd be stupid not to sell it!" If there was something, anything, to suggest there was some kind of motivation behind this release greater than "people will buy it", I'd be more understanding.
Music really means something to me. When the band treats their own record like something that can be arbitrarily cut up, repackaged and resold at a premium, it creates the impression that it doesn't mean that much to them.

It seems kinda dumb to me so I didn't buy it. Then I went on living my life as though the release of this product had no impact on it.

What does this have to do with the music? And how is this arbitrarily cut up? have they retracked lightning bolt?!
Hell, it's not even like it's a non music product (like lightning bolt brand yoghurt) or anything like that. It is the album repackaged in a particularly fancy way marketed to a small group of collectors who like that stuff.
I would have been bothered by this if there was a new version of a song or something that made this necessary to buy for purposes of hearing the music.
And I'm not sure the kiss comparisons are far off either, in terms of merchandising, but I also don't care since I hardly see the music existing as an excuse to sell merchandise or the merchandise that is being sold somehow altering the meaning or message of the music.

You can stop worrying, there are penty of us who will gladly snag the copies left behind by people like yourself. Re: Pearl Jam: Sevens
In all fairness, the 7" will be at 45rpm, which can be produced with deeper grooves and therefore could potentially be the best sounding version of the album. I will definitely be spinning mine.stip wrote:Birds in Hell wrote:That nobody in the Pearl Jam organisation thought to say "that's a really dumb idea" seems, to me, indicative of a greater malaise.
