Pendulum - Why couldn't they have added a 90 second rock out at the end of this, when the drums get interesting? I still like it, I'll listen through almost every time it starts, it's a moody sing along, and that will always mean it will play well for me. But, it just feels stunted. This could have been Present Tense with the right rockin' outro.

Jeff and Stone were hanging out jamming and Jeff was playing keyboards and Stone was playing bongos with a guitar cable for a weird effect.

I guess neither Jeff,Stone, John Burton and latter Ed were able to "guide the idea" anywhere further.
This was linked in the B'OB bitching thread and i'm surprised it was largely ignored.
I agree with you about Pendulum but I'm surprised when people praise the song writing in this songs because i think it actually displays Jeff's and Stone's weaknesses as songwriters far more than does their strengths for the reasons you described.

I think on a different album it would have worked well as a little interlude/non song, the problem as it is, is that the music is so different/ much more interesting than the rest of lb so it stands out too much to do that here.

I saw a quote somewhere (from the new issue of deep I think?), where Jeff said his current favourite pj album is binaural, be still my b-balling heart. Binaural finally gets some lovin.

Jeff is going trough a very interesting phase as a songwriter.

this would have completely ruined the song for me. i think its much better then present tense, and i think adding a "rockin'" outro would have totally out of place.

It seems to me that while what they originally come up with, the down tuned doorbell rip off here for instance i have absolutely no issue with that but they don't seem to have the skills to make more than a non song out of it and the fact that they needed someone to guide them only confirms it. I think despite all the praise Jeff's songs from LB get here they live mostly off of the vocal performances they rely on them too much even and i really love those vocal performances mind you. This is why i wouldn't be particularly exited by an album with exclusively Jeff/Stone music. They're fairly average if you consider this is their 4th decade as recording artists. I mean Pendulum isn't complex to the point you'd think it's above their skill sets.

I don't think they were trying to come up with an amazingly complex song and this was the best they could do though, I think they just put together a cool bit of music. Both Jeff and stone have written proper 'song' songs, good ones. Plus I'd take some more vague not exactly songs over more songs with a thousand parts, structured verse-verse-prechourus-chorus-solo-verse-bridge-prechorus-chorus-chorus-outro like LB or something.

Right now, though, I'd bet on this finishing up somewhere between 250-350k.

Well stupidmop did. It's a song all right. I don't think it's a non song, i think it could have been more of a song than it is cool music with a vocal line on top of it. It's better than what something like that would have been in the past.

Well stupidmop did. It's a song all right. I don't think it's a non song, i think it could have been more of a song than it is cool music with a vocal line on top of it. It's better than what something like that would have been in the past.

Is it? If it's "better", I wonder whether that's just because of what's surrounding it. There was a time when it would've been a "filler" track.
