I really have to question Andy Reid not going for it on two occasions. The worst one was when they had it on the Denver 1--even if you don't get it you back the Broncos up very deep. The other one was when they had 4th and about 4 in no-man's land when they were down by 14.
I would have been shocked if the Chiefs had pulled this one out. I've had this circled as a loss since the schedule came out (I've had others circled as losses too, but this was the only one I was just about 100% on). And I honestly still think the Broncos will sweep the Chiefs. Of course, I'll be rooting for the opposite.
But, yeah, I've said all year the Chiefs just don't have the offense to compete with Manning. Our D can keep a leash on him, but our O can't match him score for score. I'm just glad we didn't get completely blown out.
As for Reid not going for it... the one on Denver's 1, you ALWAYS take points against Manning. And even if he starts on the 1 yard line, chances are better than not that he'll score. Always take points. Always, always, always. The likelihood of our offense scoring a TD was much less than the likelihood of Manning leading a 99 yard drive for 6 points.
And on the second one, you never give Manning field position if you don't have to. And Alex was having a bad habit of losing us yards on important downs. I'm totally fine with Reid's calls on both occasions given how poorly our O was playing and how close the game was compared to how it could have been.
