Stip was talking previously about 'guilty pleasures', and I guess that I've heard these songs enough this year (and not hated them) to qualify. This post is brought to you by my 10 year old daughter:
Katy Perry - Roar
Karmin - Acapella
Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball
Ylvis - What Does the Fox Say
Actually, I do hate that last one.

I liked Fuzz, that second one I liked at first, but then it just didn't seem to go anywhere and I lost intereststip wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:

Just started putting together a few tracks and this run of tracks was quite nice indeed. I'm stuck in the 90's maybe.
Shouting Matches - Gallup, NM
Beyond Measure - Stone
I've Got To Stop - Mazzy Star
Adara - Vista Chino
this shouting matches song was pretty good too, although I liked the one strat linked more.
the mazzy star song is pretty in their gauzy way

One of my favorite albums from this year too. I hear it as a kind of modern day "Astral Weeks"--a sort of meditative, almost mystical song cycle, with a wisdom that belies its creator's young age (pretty sure Marling is the same age now that Van Morrison was when he recorded "Astral Weeks"). The closing track, "Saved These Words," is probably my favorite on the record.

Re: Best songs of 2013 (or how we all tried to win Stip over
I'm gonna post this cause it's far and away my favorite track to appear anywhere this year. This album (and this song in particular) shattered my perceptions of what you could expect from a traditional rock band two decades into their career. It is simultaneously true to who they are while also sounding like absolutely nothing else they've ever done before. And even if you have no knowledge of them, it's just a killer fucking song. Intelligent, insightful, angry, dramatic, daring. Great music, great lyrics, great production, great performance. I ended up (unfairly, but for good reason) making a lot of comparisons between this album and Lightning Bolt (my two favorite bands, both releasing their first album of their third decade together merely weeks apart; It was inevitbale), and it probably caused me to be harsher on LB than I should have been. I can't help it though.
And yes, stip, I know you won't like it because of the vocals.

I didn't realize we were actually trying to win stip over, I thought we were making fun of him as per usual.
