It feels rushed and forced. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with following up one of my favorite Spoon albums, which made my expectations higher for Transference. But on the whole, I felt like all of the songs were just "meh."--- wrote:why's that? i love this recordChris_H_2 wrote:God, Transference was just a HUGE disappointment for me . . .

B/c you've all been waiting for me to chime in...
...Spoon is my favorite band post the year 2000.
Top 3:
Gimme Fiction (the highs on this are just too high)
Kill the Moonlight (never gets old)
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (maybe their most consistent)
Best Song: My Mathematical Mind

This surprises me. Following GCT and KTM, GF always came up short for me.evenslow wrote:B/c you've all been waiting for me to chime in...

Re: Spoon
Side two of GF is inconsistent but the best songs on the record are as good as they get. Especially:Chris_H_2 wrote:This surprises me. Following GCT and KTM, GF always came up short for me.evenslow wrote:B/c you've all been waiting for me to chime in...

Goddamn I hope this record doesn't continue the downward slide. The Divine Fits record was supercool, but Gimme Fiction was the last time these guys blew my mind rather than just tickled me by continuing to be really, really good at being Spoon.

Re: Spoon
I just couldn't stop playing that Divine Fits record. Wouldn't let me.
I think Ga5 was Spoon at their poppy best. Transference would be the beginning of a downward slide that I hope doesn't happen. Divine Fits actually gave me hope that Britt has still got it.

Re: Spoon
Ga and Transference are both pretty good records...they're just not on par with what came before. Ga was well-crafted but had a sense of...I don't want to say a lack of new ideas, but a lot of that record feels to me like it's looking backwards. Transference maybe had a little more personality, but it wasn't quite as well done.evenslow wrote:I just couldn't stop playing that Divine Fits record. Wouldn't let me.

Basically, this band had a run of unbelievably great records, and then made two "pretty good"s. I'm actually perfectly happy with "pretty good," I just don't want this record to indicate any further slippage, because that leads to fear. And, you know, fear leads to hate, which I guess leads back to fear again, and then that leads to anxiety medications and stool softeners, and somehow eventually it all leads to the dark side of the force.

I hope so! I love this band and can't wait to see them again. Great live band - they mix their sets like PJ does.zeb wrote:This one will be a return to form.
