I understand the flag being thrown in real time with no replay. (Btw, these calls can have a MAJOR impact on the game so why isn't there a ref up in a booth whose entire job is to very quickly review those calls? It wouldn't slow down the game any, and then we could at least have less bad 15 yard penalty calls.) But for the NFL to fine that hit is unbelievable. Also, what's with the fine amount? It's almost an admission that they know it's complete nonsense.

On my list of road stadiums to visit. Did a newspaper in kansas really write this article???

"Multiple NFL teams have complained the high marijuana to oxygen ratio inside Mile High Stadium gives the marijuana-trained Broncos an unfair advantage at home against incoming teams from states where marijuana remains appropriately illegal."

Complained? I rather doubt that. Dwayne Bowe still wants to know if Sonic is open.

I know the Broncos almost always beat the Chiefs at home, but that was still a nervous game to watch. Still, fuck yeah.

I really have to question Andy Reid not going for it on two occasions. The worst one was when they had it on the Denver 1--even if you don't get it you back the Broncos up very deep. The other one was when they had 4th and about 4 in no-man's land when they were down by 14.

I would have been shocked if the Chiefs had pulled this one out. I've had this circled as a loss since the schedule came out (I've had others circled as losses too, but this was the only one I was just about 100% on). And I honestly still think the Broncos will sweep the Chiefs. Of course, I'll be rooting for the opposite.

But, yeah, I've said all year the Chiefs just don't have the offense to compete with Manning. Our D can keep a leash on him, but our O can't match him score for score. I'm just glad we didn't get completely blown out.

As for Reid not going for it... the one on Denver's 1, you ALWAYS take points against Manning. And even if he starts on the 1 yard line, chances are better than not that he'll score. Always take points. Always, always, always. The likelihood of our offense scoring a TD was much less than the likelihood of Manning leading a 99 yard drive for 6 points.

And on the second one, you never give Manning field position if you don't have to. And Alex was having a bad habit of losing us yards on important downs. I'm totally fine with Reid's calls on both occasions given how poorly our O was playing and how close the game was compared to how it could have been.

I can't agree with that at all. Field goals don't beat Manning. As a Bronco fan Sunday night, believe me, please ... kick a field goal on every drive.

Also, Bill Barnwell had a good breakdown of this and his stats show that Manning (like pretty much everyone, or so I'd have to assume) is VERY unlikely to score when starting from his own 1.

Well, I should say that I think that (barring something special like a tie game with 4 seconds left) teams should always go for it on 4th and goal from the 1. But to me, when you're going up against a good offense it justifies going for it more often, not less. If you trade TDs for FGs, by mathematical definition you're going to lose.

Right. I tend to agree. But we were having so much trouble moving the ball. I'd rather have three than zero. And our chances at three were actually higher. Take the three.

Sure, my comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek hyperbole. Point being that Manning is unlike any other. But didn't the Broncos score on both of their drives that were behind the 20? I'm just saying, you play to win, but in that particular situation taking three points and feeling good about it maybe does more for you than losing six on a goal line stand and feeling useless and defeated and putting that much MORE pressure on your D.

I don't remember if the Broncos scored after that field goal or not.

I know it didn't matter in the end because they scored on the next play, but there is no way they had enough evidence to overturn that first TD. Ron Winter isn't going to be working any playoff games this year, hopefully.
