The Big Day Out 2014 sideshows have been announced! Arcade Fire, Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion, Major Lazer, Primus, The Lumineers, Grouplove, CSS, Mac Miller, Toro y Moi, Portugal. The Man, and The 1975 are taking over venues down the East Coast to give their fans an extra chance to see them perform while they’re in the country for Big Day Out.

My faith in an Australian PJ warm-up/sideshow may be repaid after all

I'm pretty sure I've read this announcement covered all of the sideshows and that Pearl Jam are still exclusive to the festival (as are Blur, for that matter).

Since there's tickets still for sale for the festival (and they already canned the second Sydney show due to low sales), I'd imagine chances of seeing the headliners outside of the festival shows now is virtually nil.

The NA leg setlists have been fantastic, I hope that at least partially carries through.

Devastated to report that Blur won't be performing at BDO in 2014. It’s a shock that it has come to this.

Only 8 weeks to go, the band feels that with the constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers, they can't let it drag on any longer and want to make this announcement, to be clear to Blur fans that they won't be there.

We've done our very best to work with the organisers and considered every option to make it happen, but they’ve let us down and let everyone else down too.

Adam Zammit (BDO CEO) Tweeted that a Blur replacement will be announced 'very soon'.

Is that how they're going to wriggle out of offering refunds?

I don't think they have a choice, if this post from one of the MANY disgruntled ticketholders on their Facebook page is correct:

It's been 3 hours and BDO have still not made any official announcement about BLUR cancelling their headline appearance for you, what a joke. Like everyone else that has been commenting over this time, I ONLY bought my BDO ticket to see Blur and no one else! We all deserve refunds and according to your T&Cs we are entitled to it, We all better receive a response regarding this very soon...

"If the headline act of an event is changed, your ticket will remain valid for the replacement act. If you no longer wish to attend the event due to the change in the headline act, and you contact us in a timely manner and provide the original ticket(s) and proof of purchase, We will refund to you the ticket price inclusive of booking fees but exclusive of delivery or mail fees and or any Processing Surcharge. If you are entitled to a refund and We have not already mailed your ticket, then We will also refund you any delivery fee associated with the purchase of such Ticket(s)."

Oh, well there you go. I can't imagine who they'll get to replace them at this short notice.

According to the SMH article, Ken West has stepped away from any day-to-day involvement in the festival, so I guess this one's on C3/AJ Maddah's shoulders?

Yeah, I just read that too. My guess is it was over the 'exclusivity' of not being able to put on sideshows - a lame desperate attempt to boost ticket sales by luring Blur and PJ fans to a festival they don't want to go.

Oh well, with already embarrassing ticket sales set to reduce further with an onslaught of refunds, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the whole thing gets cancelled now. At least then there's a chance of a proper PJ tour. Right?... Right?!
