There's just been too much floating around on TV, on the radio, online...today I started Libra.

I wasn't that into Aira when I read Ghosts but I just finished this one and loved it so much that I ordered another two (How I Became a Nun and Varamo):

And also this for a paper:

"Ghosts" was actually where I started to "get" Aira...had started with "Landscape Painter" and wasn't wowed except for a few passages, but I thought "Ghosts" was excellent throughout. "Nun" is probably my next favorite (haven't read "Varamo" or the newer ones).

Re: What are you currently reading?
I mean, I liked Ghosts a lot, actually, it just didn't stick with me or really push me to read more. At the time, I was also heavily into Bolaño and Castellanos Moya (I still am, but that was all I was reading) so I think the more comic elements of Aira threw me off. Maybe I'm more ready for that now/less self-serious. This is also the first book of fiction I've read in maybe a year? I did pick up some weird echoes of Deleuze in there, but that's probably just my own mental overlap.Simple Torture wrote:"Ghosts" was actually where I started to "get" Aira...had started with "Landscape Painter" and wasn't wowed except for a few passages, but I thought "Ghosts" was excellent throughout. Re: What are you currently reading?
Speaking of which, I've barely read fiction since 2011 and almost completely lost touch with world fiction in that time. What's been going on?

He's a little wordy, but Thomas Wolfe is another guy who just gets it.

Re: What are you currently reading?
This morning I was awaken with a call from a number from the Asheville, North Carolina district, home of Thomas Wolfe himself. No message was left. But hours earlier, I quoted Mr. Wolfe in a text message to my brother.
You quote Thomas Wolfe and he will call.
