Re: Sleeping By Myself (Pearl Jam)
I like this song. I had no recollection of the ukulele version (I maybe played that album once), so maybe that helped. Even though My Father's Son is my second favorite song on the record (behind Swallowed Whole), I feel like if there's a second song from this record I'm ever gonna have the urge to listen to or put on a mix sometime down the road, it's more likely to be this one. I'm glad they put it on the record. And I'm glad some people are pissed off that it's on there. Fuck them.
I fucking hate the way Ed sings "same" at the end though. "See-aaaaame." Goddammit.

This song was definitely the most pleasant surprise of "Lightning Bolt."

I was kind of disappointed it was going to be on the album, but about twenty seconds into my first listen I took it all back. It's great.

As far as i remember the bitching started when it became known the song was included on LB not with the listening parties.theplatypus wrote:Yeah, those listening-party Europeans turned out to be a bunch of dummies.

Yes, the bitching started long before that. But, the impressions people had of the song from the listening parties seemed to be way off. Its so much better than they were reporting.Mine wrote:As far as i remember the bitching started when it became known the song was included on LB not with the listening parties.theplatypus wrote:Yeah, those listening-party Europeans turned out to be a bunch of dummies.

Yup. I got the impression at the time that people had and posted negative impressions of it to be cool among other fans.EJ wrote:Yes, the bitching started long before that. Why does he do it? Why does no one tell him it sounds stupid?

Re: Sleeping By Myself (Pearl Jam)
First, as to the ricky ramone incident in that clip, I though it was a dick move, too, until I heard the Brooklyn boot and caught how bad his guitar sounded. It totally ruined the song, and I would have threw it down in disgust as well. Don't judge it until you hear it.bodysnatcher wrote:harmless wrote:Why does he do it? As to the question of why he sucks at singing now, I will copy and paste my response from 5 mins ago in the bootlegs thread....
Why does he sing like that now?
Poor vocal coaching and a misguided belief that he still has such a powerful voice that tone is all that matters.
Compare his voice now to '94/'95, and I'll argue that his tone is better, but the passion is gone. Without passion and with too much focus on tone and filling melody bars, you end up with forgotten lyrics and 4 vowel sounds in one-syllable words.

On one hand, if you give him the benefit of the doubt, he may not have known ricky was standing right there. And holy shit, it sounded bad.
But, you're right. It was a dick move. I guess there' really no way around it the more you watch it.

oh, so that's the guy that got fired.theplatypus wrote:It's a dick move anyway.
In philly, show whatever #2 in 2009. that guy kept wanting to adjust ed's guitar and ed kept telling him to get the fuck away, and the guy just kept on insisting on trying to grab it from him ONSTAGE,....MID SONG.
I'm surprised he didn't get fired back then plus a nice whallop into the head or face or even neck...thorax, whatever
