I've totally had it with festivals since a couple of years. Now, if I go, it's just one day for a few acts I want to see. I can't bring myself to spend an entire day, let alone multiple days on a festival ground.

Fair enough. But aren't you in Europe? Festivals there are a much larger draw - I couldn't imagine anything bigger than our first year at Roo - 80k. Isn't it closer to 200-250k in Europe?

I live just in the middle between Arras & Werchter (which you'll probably know from PJ's tour list). Arras capacity about 40.000 per day. Werchter 85.000. I think only Roskilde & Glastonbury are bigger than that. So no, I don't think we have that much larger draws. But then again, there's way more festivals of course. You can probably go to a major European festival every weekend from June till August. You'll be completely broke of course and will have seen mostly the same artists play mostly the same sets time & time again.

I've only done those where it's basically like one long show with tons of bands all day, eg. The Big Day Out - and, good lord, that's bad enough.

Too much shitty music, too many dickheads, too much sun. I'd so much rather go and see a band I like play at a bar or a theatre, a festival is a terrible environment to actually enjoy the music (and I'm not really interested in anything else.)

I totally understand the lack of appeal. Not sure why it was in my brain that 200k was a normal sized festival over there. That seems insane to think about...

That's awful. I think Thom Yorke did mention something about that last year at Bonnaroo. It rained more or less all night on Saturday into Sunday, but there wasn't anything close to that in the camp grounds. No wonder people hate festivals when they see shit like this

the way you two describe festivals, id never go either, ever. my biggest complaint about ACL is the porta potties towards the end of each day, and im a boy, and im a local who knows where the least used ones are each year. other than that, nothing but fun with fun people and very little douche bags to be honest.

Psychfest is a festival that The Black Angels help create many years ago. This years festival lineup includes BRMC and Black Mountain, so I have to go.

They've had their fill with festivals it seems. In all honesty, their complaints are the least of my worries. It's a great thing for anyone to experience at least once. Dealing with a few assholes (which I've yet to experience at Bonnaroo), crowded showers, porta johns, drugs and some mud aren't at all a big deal when you have the opportunity to see 200+ bands over a 3-4 day period. The music trumps all!

i sat in 4 inches of mud, actually called dillo dirt, which is treated, recycled human shit, for 8 hours waiting for pearl jam one year...

I agree there. I've been to Werchter 10 times for the full 3 (and later 4) days. From 2000 to 2010. And I'm very glad it's part of my youth. Wouldn't want to swap it for anything. Even the rainy years had their charm.

There's something to be said for enjoying things like that when you are younger. My bitchiness won't allow it much longer, so I'm enjoying every second of it while it seems "peaceful" in my 20s.

zilker park where acl is held every year. lol. the park holds up really well to be honest considering 3 days of 70,000 plus. but that weekend it rained all of saturday, NONSTOP. i was soaked to the bone by the time dave matthews hit the stage. so on sunday as i waltzed into the park, it was a mudfest.

ed actually did a head first dive slip and slide down the middle of the two crowd barriers during porch... i dont think he realized what he was getting himself into.

when i made it home, i stripped and hosed myself down on the front yard. everything went into the trash bin.

It's probably fine to be around, but being covered in it can't be good to think about Rain at any of these festivals creates it's own challenges, you always see those people covered in mud making the best of the situation.
