I think if you put a spotlight on somebody and a microphone in any man's hand every other night for 20+ years (especially a person in a world famous rock band), there are bound to be moments where you come across as a dick.

Re: Did Eddie fire Ricky Ramone?
The music for Ten was just about finished when Ed came in. Temple of the Dog is another example, all of current Pearl Jam with Cornell as vocalist. It was a bit different from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden due to being a sort of Andy Wood tribute. But Cornell is someone who could have done a great job on Ten, and could have brought in great tracks as well.Mine wrote:I disagree because they were looking for more than someone to sing on a bunch of songs. Do i think they needed Ed to make it big? No, but they needed someone with skills and talents similar to his. It's a complex issue. I think they always needed someone to turn "ideas" into songs to be able to release albums with a normal frequency. It's silly to argue any of them can't write a song, mostly because it's not difficult do begin with. I think that if either Stone or Jeff had the skills to tell the rest of the band what to play they would have done exactly what Ed did, they even had the legitimacy do to so.Anders wrote: Had the band chosen a different singer in 1990, they probably still would have been famous, they are that good. But Pearl Jam has a lot to do with Eddie Vedder. If he's in top creative form, the product will be good. If he is not, it won't. I don't see how any Pearl Jam fans can deny his contribution and effort in being an integral and vital part of making some of our favorite music. The fact the Eddie had a huge say in Vitalogy, and probably even more in making No Code, is not a negative. That's a positive.
This is just my opinion BTW, i don't have the arogance to think my impression is wrong.
With that said, I love both Ed and Chris.

Do you guys all use this same logic when someone is a dick to you or a loved one in real life? Cause if you do, then cool. But I have a feeling most of you don't...

Re: Did Eddie fire Ricky Ramone?
I've got it. Lightning Bolt, the album, is about the decaying relationship between Ed and Ricky. It's obvious. Let's look at the facts:
Ricky Ramone had to getaway. He could no longer put up with Ed's little micro-aggressions, constantly being told to "Mind your manners!", when Ed was quite plainly the one in the wrong. "Well Ed", Ricky would say, "Let nobody ever say you're not you're father's son." Sirens were going off in Ricky's head until finally, the lightning bolt, or strike, or whatever, set him free, and he was finally free to believe Ed was not infallible, and that by thinking he was infallible, he was fucking with Ricky Ramone instead. So, one thing led to another -- to and fro, the pendulum throws -- and now Ricky and Ed's relationship is dead and gone, positively swallowed whole. I know what you're thinking. C'est la vie! Let the records play! Right? But, well, how is Ed going to live with himself now? He'll be sleeping by himself tonight, that's for certain. Yep. By the light of the yellow moon, Ed will be crying himself to sleep, night after night, for all of his future days.
It's so obvious. I can't believe we never saw it before.

Give any man a microphone and he'll eventually, and inevitably, be a dick in front of 17000 people! It's like that old saying: that if you put enough monkeys in a room full of typewriters for long enough, eventually they'll type out the complete works of Shakespeare. Fact.

Glens guitar tech is eds new guitar tech. Poison chalice? Hopefully not. Simon is far more capable and on the ball than Rick ever was.

Re: Did Eddie fire Ricky Ramone?
Temple of The Dog went kind of nowhere initially. I remember reading that it's started selling only after 10 became popular. It's actually what i was thinking while writing that post. It initially sold only 70.000 copies and consider Soungarden released 2 albums and had a grammy nomination at that point.Anders wrote:The music for Ten was just about finished when Ed came in. I haven't listened to the gossman project demo in a while but i know part of the songs were essentially finished but they didn't have melodies or lyrics for that matter. Again I'm not arguing they aren't capable of writing songs without Ed i sense that at least at the time they needed someone who were able to bring more than the vocals to the mix. Vocal melodies alone can pay huge roles in how a song ends up being.

Re: Did Eddie fire Ricky Ramone?
He's a guitar player, can restring in seconds and knows a bunch of tunings. And he knows what guitar goes with what Song. Something the previous guy didnt. I can't see ed screaming at him or throwing beer bottles at him any time soon.
Ruddo, I know he wasn't up to the job, I've seen ed lose his shit at him numerous times and
Worst was Manchester 09 where he physically was throwing glass beer bottles at him and screaming at him. He obviously wasn't able to do the job.
