A user name is a fairly static entity, friend...but the degree of variation or even the general status of your allotment of Some is forever in flux.

I hope that when the new album does come it's coming just for the longtime time diehards. The last two albums felt like they were coming for an entirely different entity

I'm not sure they care about the longtime diehards anymore.

That's a very curious expression, Mr. Willis.

Just saw the trending now box on Yahoo. Pearl Jam's Ten was number 2. The album hit 10 million sales yesterday.

pearl jam, ten The cover to Pearl Jam's 'Ten'

Seattle alt-rock pioneers' debut becomes the 22nd LP to attain "Diamond" status

Pearl Jam's now classic 1991 debut, Ten, has officially joined the "Diamond" club. It's taken 22 years, but the rock survivors' first full-length has become just the 22nd album to sell more than 10 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which began tracking sales data in '91.

Billboard reports that Ten just inched across the prestigious threshold by selling nearly 4,000 units last week. That brings the record's total sales count to about a thousand copies over the 10 million mark.

So far, 2013 has seen a relatively high number of albums reach "Diamond" status: Linkin Park's 2000 debut Hybrid Theory, Usher's 2004 Confessions, and Adele's mammoth 21. But it'll probably be some time before another LP follows in Ten's footsteps, as the album closest to hitting 10 million at the moment is Celine Dion's 1997 release, Let's Talk About Love, which, according to Billboard, is currently hovering around 9.6 million copies sold and moving far fewer than 1,000 discs per week. By the time it surpasses 10 million, we'll likely have already heard the next Pearl Jam full-length, which frontman Eddie Vedder recently said was "maybe halfway" done.

No idea Adele sold that many albums. That's a pretty impressive. I would have thought two million was the max anyone could expect sell nowadays.

I found it even more impressive that mainstream music media outlets are taking shots at the length of time it is taking Pearl Jam to release new music.

That, and what's the deal with Linkin Park selling so many. Where was I?

Do you think the 10 Club was kind enough to give the 10,000,000th purchaser of Ten a pack of stickers?

Mike McCready says the new record will definitely come out this year.
"What everybody's been saying is halfway done," he says of the follow-up to 2009's Backspacer. "I think that's true – we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie brings in, so we'll weed through those."

Though he's reluctant to categorize the album just yet – "because what I can say won't make any sense until you hear it" – he can offer a few details.

"I would say as a cliché answer it's kind of a logical extension of what Backspacer was," he says. "But I think there's a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There's a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there's a punk rock edge to other stuff."
