This sounds like the blurb to a Neil Gaiman novel wherein the reason Mr Angsty is feeling angsty is because Mr Happy and Mr Mellow are trying to destroy his life because by not being angsty anymore he's disturbing the fabric of the universe. At the end Mr Angsty kills them both and becomes the new Mr Happy.

I gotta laugh at this as back when I was in college, Sugar Ray played at UMD and the singer did exactly this. He shot free throws and dunked on a low rim they had brought on stage during one of the bands "jams".
