In the NFL, when a player gets suspended for steroids, they come back from their suspensions and no one acts like it's the end of the world. The double standard for baseball is so ridiculous.

But your essentially talking about a 3 year ban (the year with the test, and the subsequent 2 years) when you wont allow that player to play. Also, how would the owners handle that? You sign a player with no PED history to a five year contract. He then gets caught a year into it.. so now the owners are paying that player for 3 years in the regular season but he can't play in the postseason? It doesn't make any sense.

Another factor here... Peraltas name appeared on a list for before the 2012 season. He never had a positive test, but has admitted his usage... And 2012 was his worst season of the past 4, by a long shot. This "rewarding" a person for cheating notion is silly. His contract he got is a result of his overall performance, not "rewarding" his PED use- he's just not having it held against him as much as some think he should.

Ive heard talk that owners may start putting "out" clauses in contracts if a penalties increas.
say, you sign 5 years / 80 million, BUT at anypoint during the 5 years you have a positive test, we can void the remaining years, and may push for that to be non guaranteed in the next CBA. And ummm you kinda argued against your point with Peralta, he got the big contract coming off a bad year, after he got suspended for admitting he was using in the previous season when he had better numbers.

Baseball's had far more big name players linked too it (which weve argued about before)
Bonds, Big Mac, Sosa alone (yes none of them tested positive) Braun, ARod, all MVP players. Whats the most the NFL caught? Merriman? and baseball is such a stat driving sport... wheres as the NFL, you have players getting nabbed that are offensive lineman, or a linebacker? tackles and blocks? are not nearly as talked about as hits/home runs

2012 was peraltas down year. He had a very good 2013, he just served the suspension in 2013.

Postseason ineligibility is a terrible idea. For starters, the fact a player was suspended for PED use generally means he's going to get less money on the open market than he otherwise would have (see Cabrera, Melky). Cabrera and Peralta also forfeited $1.85 million each because of the suspensions. You really don't think that's much of a punishment?

thats why its a great idea, as it could possible really clean up the game.
and it would truly show what a player is playing for? himself (his stats) or to win a world series

I think the clean players are really going to push for more severe punishment in the next CBA

Im sure they will, but that doesn't make your plan make any sense what so ever.

You assume the owners, who are the ones that are signing the players to these deals coming off of PED suspensions, will want it as well.

I usually back Dave Dombrowski, but this Fister deal leaves me scratching my head when considering what little they got in return.

The funny thing is that the best way to help your team win a World Series is to play better. So... maybe steroids aren't such a selfish thing. Or, at the very least, maybe it's not nearly as black-and-white as people want to believe.

I imagine there are 28 other GMs who are disappointed they weren't given a chance to beat that deal. Well... maybe 27. I'm not sure Amaro has any idea what's going on right now.

CHICAGO—Although he has already built a reputation as one of the most offensive players in the game, White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski said Monday that he will put on his extremely smug game-face on Opening Day and leave it on for the rest of the season. "I think my antics in the postseason proved to my critics that I'm more than just a one-dimensional jackass," said Pierzynski, who trailed only Barry Bonds and Milton Bradley in all offensiveness categories in 2005. "Whether it means 'accidentally' tripping an opposing player right before he crosses home plate or sliding cleats-up into first base on a routine groundout, I am going to focus especially hard on the 'irritating' and 'aggravating' aspects of my game this year. By the end of the season, I'll finally have lost the respect of my coaches, teammates, and fellow major-leaguers." Pierzynski's comments drew the ire of Yankee offensive force Gary Sheffield, who vehemently argued that he is not only the most offensive player in the game, but that his reactionary style of play will earn him a spot on The Sporting News' 2006 All-Defensive Team.
