The Big Star Thread

Post by Fuzzcharger »

I finally managed to watch the Big Star doco on the weekend and thought his band needed a thread. There's a few people on here that I think would really dig them. Anyways here's some of the doco trailers to get things started.

Man, I need to see that documentary.

I love all three of their albums, but Third/Sister Lovers is a harrowing, singular masterpiece.

Incidentally, even if he hadn't admitted as much (and covered a few of their songs), it'd be readily apparent that Elliott Smith was heavily influenced by this band--I've always thought his voice sounded eerily similar to Chilton's.

I was totally gonna start a Big Star thread today, and you beat me to it you fuck!

"Radio City" and "Third (Test Pressing)" are masterpieces as far as I'm concerned.

I finally got into Big Star this year with the purchase of the #1 Record vinyl. I have yet to buy the others b/c I'm still so into that one.

Wonderful as the song is, can we all agree that there should be a moratorium on the use of "Thirteen" in TV shows and movies? Anytime someone wants to portray wistful innocence, they cheat by using it.
